Anansi Boys and American Gods are defintely entirely different entities. But then it just got me thinkin'...Shadow got into a fight with Spider...who would kick whose ass?

Shadow would definitely beat the shit out of Spider. But then who knows...Spider could call his spider friends again who'd end up biting Shadow to the death.

What a funny idea! Big Grin

Let's see, Spider's definitely more in touch with his god-powers, but they didn't do him much good when he was fighting Charlie, did they? Maybe they also wouldn't work on a godling like Shadow.

Of course Shadow does have to worry about spiders, but I dunno...I mean, Shadow did come back from the dead. He is friends with practically every god now. And besides, he's not Tiger, who the spiders would want to hurt anyway. I think between his toughness/resourcefulness/LUCK/allies, whatever, he wouldn't have to worry about Spider's spiders.

Now, the physical specs: Shadow is a tall, muscular dude. Spider is...hm. Like Fat Charlie except not as round at the edges. I picture him as more sinewy than muscular, but I can't remember for sure. Honestly I just want to say that Shadow would win because I like Shadow better. Razz Maybe they'll meet someday and we'll find out. Neil's not known for writing fight scenes, though...so probably not.

EDIT: Of course now that I think about it, we had the Spider/Charlie fight, the Shadow/Sweeney fight, all the fights near the end of AG, all of Hunter's fights in Neverwhere, and angel-cat devil-cat fight in that short story, and fights in practically everything else he's written.

Provided Shadow wasn't overwhelmed by Spider's charm, Spider is dropping like a stone.

I don't think Spider would fight - he's a coool dude - I'm sure he struts when he walks - but I think he would figure out a con and talk his way out - very quickly!

Assuming that we are talking about post-American Gods shadow, I doubt he's going to fall for a con that easily.

Spider would work out a non-violent compromise - I think he's just basically "a Lover, not a Fighter."

(I'm only part way through American Gods - so far, Shadow dependably falls for everything - it makes you much more sympathetic - 'don't go down that dark alleyway - arrggh! he did it again! . . . but I haven't gotten very far at all)
