Hello, everyone.

Not long ago I found a copy of Anansi Boys on a vehicle, where I work. The book and the vehicle were both abandoned(I work at UPS where people just leave the "TUGS" we use near the exit, often times leaving personal belongings behind). I was curious by the books cover art. So I took it.

Now I don't normally take things, especially when they look like someones personal property. But something told me it was ok to take this book. I'm not much of a reader. I read a lot of Steven King's work, but mostly cause his style in writing attracts my attention. Something about this book and title attracted my attention. So I decided I was gonna read it.

This book blew me away. I work a graveyard shift, but when I would get home I often found myself inside my parked car, outside my apartment, reading chapter after chapter. I was hooked. I read this book for hours at a time. I would have to force myself to sleep, cause I knew I needed the rest before I began my work day again. But I honestly fought it real hard. I refused to stop reading unless I was done with the current chapter I was on, when I would decide that I MUST SLEEP!

As soon as I was done reading the book, I had the biggest smile on my face. The story had me laughing, worrying and had me on the edge of my seat. I always wanted to know what would be next. As soon as I was done reading it, I began reading it again(almost done with it again).

Now, let me apologize for my first post on these forums being so lengthy. But I can't praise this book enough. I've recommended it to friends and family. Anyone I can think of.

I'm hooked. I need more Gaiman. I was browsing amazon earlier today to buy my very own, brand new copy of, Anansi Boys. I'm looking for help in my next Gaiman book. If any of you out there have any recommendations, please...let me know!

PS - I plan to leave the copy I took from work and leaving it in an area where some other lucky person, like myself, can find it and really enjoy this truly wonderful story.

The tone of Gaiman's books are all over the place so you may or may not like certain books. I can say that his novel "American Gods" is a much longer and much more serious piece but it does share the character of Anansi with the book you just read. I think you would likely enjoy "Coraline" (which is my fave of his prose works) or "Neverwhere". You may very well like "Stardust" which the recent motion picture of the same name was based on as well. I also tend to recommend "Interworld" which Gaiman co-wrote as it's a quick, easy, and fun read that reminds me alot of Stephen King's "Talisman" but not as serious.

Good Omens is another really good one Neil co-wrote... it's like a monty python does the omen. I never laughed more with any other Gaiman book, although American Gods is my favorite no matter what. Smile

Some fans disagree, but I still think Sandman was his best work, and his ticket to immortality. And you're new, so maybe you haven't seen the free stories on the website. "A Study in Emerald" is genius.

I have yet to read Sandman (yes, I know, bad-Gaiman-fanchick, someone thwap me) and my first encounter was Good Omens. then, ermmm, either Stardust or Neverwhere, can't remember. And I read Neverwhere before seeing the tv-movie, but I love how dark and moody Neverwhere is.

Welcome aboard!

You are an Accomptant. You keep track of the King's accounts, which is a fairly simplish job: his current holdings is always A LOT, and his expected revenue is always MORE. 'Sgood ta be da King. As long as there isn't a peasant uprising, you're likely to keep your head. Also, you're the only one in the office who knows how to use an abbacus. (Or multiply.) (Or add.)

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

Hey there!

Thank you for all your suggestions and greetings, everyone.

I've decided to go with American Gods and Neverwhere. I've bought them both and am simply waiting for them to arrive.

As far as his short stories; I'll be heading over there soon as I'm done posting this. Thanks again everyone. Big Grin

Good choices. "American Gods" wasn't exactly what I expected it to be but I absolutely loved it anyway. It also gave me one of the biggest thrills of my life when I happened upon a throwaway sentence in the middle of it that was inspired by something I was a part of. Probably the closest I'll ever come to being mentioned in a book or dedication and that's fine by me Wink I think it's a good follow up from "Anansi Boys" since the Anansi character will still be fresh in your mind. Let us know what you think of the books when you finish them. Have fun.

Still haven't read Anansi Boys, still haven't seen Beowulf or Stardust. Browsed Smoke and Mirrors but don't have a copy. So I win, I think.
