This is vague because I neither have my American Gods copy or my Anansi Boys copy, but one of the four women is referred to with the name "Zorah" in one sentence, in one part of the book. I forgot where it was and exactly what it said ... but weren't those the three women fron American Gods?

No ... that was Zorya. Blast! I'm just looking for connections...

I think this is probably a tip of the hat to Zorah Neale Hurston, who Neil mentioned at the bottom of the dedication page.

(Just trying to help with connections)

quote:
The Zorya are ancient Slavic sky and light goddesses, honored particularly in Russia. Sometimes only two in number, they are usually portrayed as three, a not uncommon number. They were three Slavic dawn goddesses. There was Utrennyaya, the morning star; Vechernyaya, the evening star; and the midnight Zorya. All have the same job: to guard a chained dog who tries to eat the constellation Ursa Minor, the little bear. If the chain should ever break and the dog should ever get loose, the universe will end. Thus the Zoryas are guardian goddesses.

You made me curious ...so I had to find out for myself

For waht it's worth, Zorah is also a character in Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore, which supplied Neil with his first role on stage.
