I think the fight scene between Beowulf and Grendel has got to be one of moviedom's best comedic scenes. How inventive those guys were in hiding Beowulf's boy-parts. Here the man is, in all his stripped-down, buck-naked glory, jumping, running, thrusting, leaping, running up walls, somersaulting through the air, and yet, always, somehow his essentials are kept just slightly out of view, hidden behind a...

1)sword
2)spear (subtle, eh?)
3)chain
4)barrel
5)part of Grendel
6)piece of wood
7)jug
8)dead man's big toe
...and that's not even counting the clever camera angles.

Please, people, let me know if I missed any. I was laughing so hard at this. The intense effort to hide the man's bits and pieces so absorbed my attention that almost all of the impact of the fight was lost.
If they had just shown the thing, or given the man a damn fig leaf or something, I would have just gone "oh. wow," and left it at that, if I had noticed at all. It's just a penis, people! Half the world has one. They're not that interesting, really...at least, not interesting enough to merit this kind of effort in creative camouflage.

Well, that's ratings for you.

I, too, chuckled at this. I watched it with others who had read the epic poem, Beowulf. This is a departure from the story...but an interesting choice. It amps up the status of this epic hero even more. It's so....primal. It's the male bodice ripper. I could also here the snickers of those who created this scene.
