Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

Saw half dozenish scenes at Comicon 06. The witch talking to the stall lady (seen briefly in the trailer) seemed spot on. Tristran crossing the wall seemed... Hollywoodized. They showed two scenes with a new character - the guy in the shop: one with the witch, one with Capt Shakespear. The shop guy seemed funny, was not particularly impressed by DeNiro, but they were short scenes. All in all, it seemed decent, not extraordinary. It was too early to show any sfx scenes though. The audience as a whole seemed appreciative but not wowed.

Claire Danes looks perfect. However, I thought that in the scene where they first meet, when she says, "yes, this is where I fell", she sounded.. too nice?

Some parts do seem Hollywoodized, but that's to be expected, I guess. I'm still really looking forward to it.

this may seem kind of odd, but um, why does it say "marv" at the begining? I don't remember the book that much... did I miss something?

It looks hilarious though.

sigh. I like the wall but I don't like the way he leaps over. That's not right. Also not right the way she is so obvious about being the star. Damn. Such a good story and the good parts gone missing. Still can't get over the fact that Gaiman, who I was reading 20 years ago in comic form, now has movies starring Michelle Pfeiffer (sp?) and the like. Can't wait for my kids to see.

It looks like some stuff will be more impressive than in the book while for other things it may be disapointing. I liked the whole star falling from the sky scene a lot. I haven't actually pictured it that way when I read the book. I agree that Yvaine's attitude should be more frustrated - defensive - aggressive than what it looks like, in that first scene.

It's funny that I always thought of Yvaine as pretty but small, whimpy, sort of weak, and Clare Danes looks like a stronger version from all points of view.

That's interesting, I took Yvaine's reaction in the trailer to be more...catty, almost bitchy, maybe masquerading as cute. I expected her to kick Tristran in the ass just after the scene cut.

The movie does look like more of a swashbuckling tale than the book was. Which is okay with. I love the book as it is, but I think a little swordplay will make the movie work better.

Trailer looks good alright.
Bitching:
Claire Danes (who I otherwise adore) doesn't look particularly star-lik. Then again, I suppose this is difficult to achieve in a film and this wa sjust the trailer...
What's that 'dinner in the moonlight' scene? And, was it me or Sienna Miller looks way too flirty there? I pictured her more haughty and disdainful...
I am not impressed by Robert de Niro, but I am prejudiced coz I think that he, like Al Pacino, have resorted to self-parody and overacting lately.

But there's good bits:
Loved Michelle Pfeiffer. Loved her loved her loved her.
Loved Tristran's look evolution -from geeky and awckward to handsome and heroic.
The princes were amazing and I want to see more!

And I can't wait to see the market, Una, the unicorn and Mr Bromios.

*hops impatiently*

Re: Clare Danes
The IMDB boards have some people posting who (claim to) have seen a preview. Rest assured that Yvaine didn't suddenly become sacharine.
Also: Rotten Tomatoes has some pictures up, one of them is of the unicorn. (I was really dreading "Legend" sybdrome, remember how in the final showdown we see the unicorn in slow-motion and its horn wobbles? But since CGI i suppose it'll look great.)

Sometimes patrons want to go where everybody knows their names, though it helps
when half of them are named John. When people want to celebrate, or commiserate,
they gather to your establishment. You provide the atmosphere, the warmth, rum,
and even an ear to bend. Did I mention the rum? Years before the language will be
mangled with terms like facilitator and networking and interpersonal communication,
you've overseen it all, and broken up a few bar fights, to boot.~
