The story at the above link is mostly about "X-Men 3," which will be directed by Matthew Vaughn. He's set to direct "Stardust" after that. Here's the bit:
Two highly distressing things here: "The Princess Bride" meets "Midnight Run?" *Groan* Also, it sounds like he's going to ditch the Victorian setting for "modern and gritty." Big mistake, if you ask me. |

Well, it sounds like he wants to change things all over the place. The good bit though is that, this is Hollywood. He doesn't even have a script yet. Not sweating til it goes into production

*glances at article* He was on Layer Cake? Didn't the Layer Cake and Mirrormask folk hang out all the time at Sundance?

"I've written the treatment, but I'm not a writer, so I'm just trying to find the right writer."
Hrm. Here's a thought. I know a writer--a very good one--who already knows Stardust inside and out. Why not ask him? *gasp* Ah well. "Vox clamantis in deserto" |

who? Cause if you mean Neil, Neil is busy as all hell with a billion other projects. I'd rather have a crap Stardust movie and let Neil get around to writing Wall than have a good alternate version of a story he already wrote

The problem is, from reading his journal I get the sense that there just aren't enough hours in the day for Neil to do all the things he has to do. However, why not find someone who's sympathetic to the book? If this guy wants to make a gritty, modern fairy tale - go find one! Don't screw this one up. |

I.E. Fables. I just hate comic movies now. Really. Because everyone thinks they have to interpret something that's essentially a movie anyway. I mean, look at Daredevil. Or Constantine (as much as I don't want it to exist) They changed everything around just so a director and moviehouse could slap a known name on it and get fanboys (and girls) to come a-runnin. The only books that would work with this sort of treatment haven't even been optioned. Books like: Powers By Brian Michael Bendis Green Arrow (specifically the run by Kevin Smith) as mentioned before, Fables. Madrox. Deadshot. Deadpool. Hitman. 100 Bullets. The Human Target. but no, they choose the stuff that shouldn't be messed with like that. Like V for Vendetta, Stardust, Constantine and they've been in talks about Books of Magic and Sandman for a while. Well, they were trying to do a Matrix-type thing with Books of Magic. You know, the Hunter as the One? Would have actually drove me to try and destroy anyone associated. |

Ill admit that I am a total newb when it comes to gaiman's work, ive read the novel Stardust, but I was unware it was a graphic novel. As a kid I only really ever got into mainstream books, and nowadays comic books are so obscure around here, finding one that has books I am interested in is about as practical as it would be for me to go looking for the star in Faerie with out Tristans awesome locating powers.
So, can someone point me kindly towards a place i could check out the graphic novel? As far as the movie Idea goes, I think it sounds a little screwy, sounds like the guy doesnt want it to be Stardust at all. Sounds like he just wants to take something that nobody has done, and turn it into something fraudulant. |

H'lo! The graphic novel is better described as a heavily illustrated novel as it's not in panel format. Here is the Amazon listing and the neilgaiman.net listing. That's if you want to buy it. However, I strongly suggest you check your local library as well (or another mod, who's a librarian, will beat me up. Really, she will!)

Ill look around local bookstores though, I cant mail order stuff because the post office wont deliver my mail properly. |

Try Borders or Barnes and Nobles.
Just set aside a bit of time, and read it in store. If you find it awesome (a lot of people do) then, heck. you've got it in your hand, and it's easily purchased. |

Yeah, you'll have good luck both in large bookstores and comics dealers.
What does your post office do that's so horrid? |

Ive read or bought all of neils graphic novels that borders(or the one by my house anyway) ever has in stock. Mostly sandman stuff.
Im gonna go this weekend though, gonna go hunting. I love the book, I'll buy it. My post office sends anything with my name on it to the sender saying the address does not exist, the only mail that successfully comes to my house has people on it who do not live here. |

He's right. I will. And, Eldi, if your library doesn't have it, ask if they can do interlibrary loans and get it for you. (you can use a spoon in a steakhouse to get that lemon out of your iced tea) _____________________________________________________________ Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket. - Goonies |

alright... this might be a hijack, but the thread mentions this... why isn't Bryan Singer doing X-Men 3? i hope they don't mess up Stardust, but i REALLY hope they don't mess up the Phoniex Saga

*reads thread*
this does not sound good for Stardust fans, since he wants to make X3 like Unforgiven... instead of like the Dark Phoniex Saga, which its supposed to be. i'm guessing Unforgiven = brooding Wolverine and Singer's movie simplistic? WTF? and Stardust gritty? i like modern fantasy, but not a 'gritty' Stardust this going is going to piss off two groups of comic fans! Gaiman fans and mainstream X-Men fans will unite in hatred! all he needs to do is direct Spawn 2 and unite Gaiman fans, McFarlane fans, and X-Fans! |

Where in So Cal do you live? Not in LA I take it-there are all sorts of libraries and bookstores around. Even ones that specialize in fantasy (in the valley). Aitapata: I'm really really sorry about the Tick thing-just became digital 12/04, so I'm unfamiliar with bootleg things on Ebay. Please forgive me...*sits in corner with duncecap on* *end of hijack* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well we all shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun...
