ha ha. Someone else has made a thread here quoting the forum description before. I'd link, but can't remember what they called the thread and the search sucks.

We celebrate the anniversary on June 15th, 2004 will be the third anniversary. It may not have been active until the next day, I dunno, but people could sign up on the 15th. JP is the earliest registered member still here having signed up on the 15th

I vaguely remember searching for the oldests topics (before the first major crash that deleted lots of stuff) and I think all were posts from people on the 15h, all of them saying "Hey, does this work? Hello? Hello?". Apparently, you could post but the post wouldn't show up, or couldn't be replied to. It was very funny Smile

Sorry GMZoe, I was just in that type of mood - and your right about the search engine - knowing the title of the thread doesn't help - I couldn't find the stupid game thread with the words stupid game, or even just stupid!!!

::Hugs Clover for being lovely and helpful to silly me::

You are an Accomptant. You keep track of the King's accounts, which is a fairly simplish job: his current holdings is always A LOT, and his expected revenue is always MORE. 'Sgood ta be da King. As long as there isn't a peasant uprising, you're likely to keep your head. Also, you're the only one in the office who knows how to use an abbacus. (Or multiply.) (Or add.)

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

Hee hee, yeah, I somehow managed to log on the night of the 15th and there were a handful of us trying to chat with one another. But it never really worked. It might have officially kicked off on the 16th, but I don't recall for sure. I'm not sure if there is anyone still around registered between the 15th and the 19th? Could it have been the 19th? I think that's when the e-mail went out or it was mentioned on the AG blog, wasn't it?

Whenever this comes up I always wonder if we'd be celebrating the anniversary on the 15th if I wasn't around. Big Grin Razz Big Grin

JP, people were definately posting before the 19th, and some of them are still vaguely around (Ninave for example). Here's the original introduction thread

Yes I was, and yeas I am Big Grin
I never entered any of the American Gods forums until I had read the book. I first posted in the Tour forum to get info on the London signing, and lurked around world's end for a while, being shy and blishung at the mere idea of hitting the "reply" button.
I wonder how long it took me to introduce myself...

I don't think I ever have Big Grin

I posted very very little at first, really it's just the past few of months I feel I've been 'chatting'

Well I was surprised to see you registered that soon... but then, my memory is terrible. I was just digging in the archives and saw it was JP the one who created the photo album for all the people who attended sginings during the AG tour! I poste dmy pic in that album, and saw his pics, but I never made the connection (or lost the one i'd made, at some point). I'm useless remembering people.
I did introduce myself, in one of the million of introduction threads, about many months afte rI'd registered.

And I found my very first posts on the board, a couple unregisterd and then I told myself to be brave and registered Big Grin

And I just redicovered another thread (watchya getting signed?) in which you posted (and Jp started it), and now memories come back -only I thought you were a guy (I always thought everyone was guys).

Mu God, it seems so long ago. And not at the same time. And i'm starting to become a granny telling old tales Big Grin

Don't worry, some people still think I'm a guy!

When I first started posting I was a little paranoid and didn't want anyone to know if I was a guy or girl, so I chose an name that could be either (but leaned towards male) and never mentioned my husband, only partner etc.

Then I realised that on this board that was daft - but I still like being smaug, and my avator's still male - but spider jerusalum is cool Big Grin

hey, I wonder if it was my first post, it was just after I registered - it probably was.

I also wonder if any of the people who dissapeared so early still lurk every now and then!

And does anyone know what happened to Salspan - he's the one I remeber clearest from that time, he always answered everyones questions!

Holy trip on the wayback machine, Clover!! Smile That's awesome. Don't worry about putting connections together, my memory comes and goes as to who I remember being around in the early days. This was the first Board I ever joined (only one still, for that matter), so I really didn't know what I was doing at the time. Also, I got swamped at work that fall, so dropped off for 9 months, which makes remembering people difficult.

As for you, Smaug, I didn't realize until very recently that you were around so early in the day (and just slightly before then did I realize you were a woman). Smile Like you, Salpsan is one from the beginning I still remember and wonder what he's up to nowdays.

If there was a board prior to the inception of this one (June 15, 2001), it wasn't hosted on neilgaiman.com. The board has gone through different looks, yes, but it's the same board.

To take a look at the older editions, check out www.archive.org. Links will work up to all the thread titles, but the threads themselves are gone.
