Hi - First time for everything. I generally do not blog, no particular reason. Anyway just needed to say I saw Mr. Gaiman speak for the first time last week in Berkeley - he was delightful. I hadn't really known what to expect - but Mr. Gaiman read a poem from Fragile Things about finding one's self inside a fairy tale. This was truely one of the loveliest peoms ever read aloud to me (and everyone else there), I felt it was true and I cried. Thanks for letting me share.
I'm not the only one then. I cried as well during Neil's reading of "Instructions" partially because my mom used to always ask my sister and I when we weren't 'pleasant' whether we would rather have diamonds or toads come out of our mouths. It was a relief to finally have a comeback of 'diamonds are sharp and cut as well.'
I've never experienced hearing a poem I am fond of being read by the poet in person before. And it was kind of overwhelming, like going to a rock concert but in a completly different way.

It's just so beautiful. I haven't gotten a chance to go to a reading by Neil yet , but I know I'd be crying! "...Diamonds are sharp and cut as well..." Gaiman writes some of the most gorgeous lines. They stand out as stories themselves.
