I missed this year's, and I heard that it was never going to happen again!!! Is this true?
If it is, does anyone want to petition/chain ourselves to bookstores/send bottles of our blood to neil/whatever it takes to get another Fiddler's Green?

As I've posted numerous times throughout the Boards...

Lesse... short answer:

NO.

Long answer:

FG was put together in 7 months time, when it really needed 18+ months of planning. The committee and assembled people that put it together worked our asses off to get it to that spot, and more than some of us had our share of freakouts and stress-related nastiness going on to not even want to *consider* doing another one.

I, as one of them, am hoping there will never be another "Fiddler's Green". This one went off far above and beyond what was expected or even hoped for. To create a sequel, another one, etc. tarnishes that accomplishment and substitutes it with greed and pride.

From Day 1, FG was going to be a one-time shot. No yearly conventions, no See You Next Time, none of that. It would ruin the some of the reasons behind it, which was a small fundraiser, for one time, for whomever could go there.

The main reason, honestly, behind it was one day last year at San Diego, Michelle from the alt.fan.thingie, Pam Basham from TheWell, and myself were talking with Neil, and he was getting burned out with the huge conventions.

That year (2003) at SDCC, he wasn't even a guest of honor, but had more panels and programming than any 2 GoH's put together.

The three of us came up with a somewhat-idea of a small, one-time convention that would benefit the CBLDF... Neil told us to talk to some people... and then in January of 2004, things started to slowly roll.

Cue November... after a lot of screaming, dreaming, and sweating... Behold FG.

I'm very thankful and glad to those who went. They helped the magic happen. To those who couldn't make it, I'm sad and sorry they couldn't.

But, to those same people, I say: Please don't try and force another Fiddler's Green. *It Will Not Happen Next Year*... or even the year after.

Some people are mentioning 5 years from now, for the 20th Anniversary, but we on the committee are not even discussing that for 18 months, at least.

I again, personally, don't want to see another one. It happened, it's over, let Gilbert rest in peace.

That was thankfully a cut'n'paste... but I *did* add emphasis where emphasis was due.

You know, we went in knowing Fiddler's Green was a one time deal. I think we should have something for the 25th anniversary, maybe even the 20th, but we should at least call it something different. I think someone sugested "Lucien's Library." I like that. But as far as FG goes, I agree with Walker.

Ooo! Ooo! I suggested Lucien's Library! Though I don't know if I was the only one...
but, yeah, Fiddler's Green was a wonderfully unique adventure. I am looking forward to a national boardmeet in '06 (and maybe a few international visitors?)

I got the basic idea after the first sentence though. The words "next years Fiddler's Green" shall never pass my lips/fingers again.
