I'll be going as lucky employee of an exhibitor - A&E/New Video will have a booth again this year, so I asked if I could get a badge, and so far it looks like I'm going to be on the list. And, if it turns out to be over the budget, I can probably borrow a badge for the afternoon.

I went to the Expo a few years ago, but just towards the end of the last day to help break down our booth, so I haven't seen how the autograph sessions work. Our booth was off with the rest of the non-book booths, in the downstairs section, and I didn't have a chance to do much exploring. I may have to work the booth part of the day this time too, but, I'll make sure to leave the hours before and after the autograph session free.

Hey Mara,
Cool! I'll look for your booth and stop by to say hi if I have time. I'm with a book wholesaler, so I have a lot of publishers to meet with--last year was my first BEA. It was quite an experience. I didn't go to any autographing sessions last year, because to be honest there really weren't any authors that interested me that I'd be willing to wait in a long line for. But I did see the autographing section, and (in Chicago, anyway) it's just tables sectioned off by that retractable material stuff you see in banks, that go all the way down the line so people can line up. I'm assuming it'll be similar this year. I'm planning on getting there early...also, if you're so inclined and have the time, There's a really interesting panel happening on Friday from 3-4 in the afternoon:

quote:
Future of the Graphic Novel
3 pm – 4 pm /Room 1E3
The dawning of the age of the graphic novel has arrived, and it’s now time to discuss with the authors forging its future. This engaging panel of graphic novelists will feature Frank Miller, author of Sin City (Dark Horse); Brad Meltzer, author of Identity Crisis (DC Comics), Adrian Tomine, author of Optic Nerve (Drawn & Quarterly); Charles Burns, author of Black Hole (Pantheon); and Harvey Pekar, author of The Quitter, (Vertigo). Hosted by Chip Kidd, Editor-At-Large, Pantheon Graphic Novels, and author of Chip Kidd: Book One, Work: 1986-2006 (Rizzoli). Book Signing to Follow in Autographing area. Admission: Free to all BEA badged participants.

And following that, from 4:30-5:30, Brad Meltzer, Harvey Pekar, Frank Miller, Chip Kidd, and Adrian Tomine will be signing their latest at table 33.

I don't know if I'll be able to get to any of the week-day Expo-days, but I'll keep that panel in mind.

I'll also aim to get to Neil's signing session early (while I figure the line won't be of the rock-star proportions that I'm used to seeing at bookstore & convention events, it's still bound to have more people than Neil can get through signing for in the time limit). We should look for each other in the line, or coordinate ahead of time. (I've posted pictures from Sundance in the Sundance thread, and from Fiddler's Green in one of the FG threads, if you want to know what I look like)

In Neil Gaiman's "Live At The Aladdin, An Eventing With Neil Gaiman- 2000" does anybody know what book he's reading the stories out of?

We sure should coordinate ahead of time. There's a photo of me somewhere in the pictures of the posters thread here. The sixth post down. It's not a very good one. It's from a dinner DC did for NY is Book Country a few Septembers ago.

Umm...I'm going to try and avoid at all costs having any appointments that afternoon before the signing, and so far it's working. I'll probably go to lunch and then wander around the floor--do you want me to meet you at the A&E booth? Maybe the line won't be so bad if we got there around 1:30 or so...what do you think?

I will hear him speak at the panel but I can't make it to his signing. I had to schedule an appointment for that time, I think. Unless they moved his signing with everyone else's after the panel.

Hi Ivan!

You're #7. So I can try to get four (well, six, really, one for me, one for a friend, four more for you people Wink ) and Mara, who's helping me out, can get three plus whatever she needs for her purposes. I will do my best! If it's been like signings in the past I've been to, they'll have a stack of them next to him on the table and we should just be able to snag what we need. But didn't attend any author signings at last year's BEA, so I don't know. I just have experience with the regional trade shows.

Having read only the last three posts or so, you gonna make sure to tell him they're for WEers!? Smile

YAY!

They're FREE!!! I cringe to think though of what they'll go for on Ebay after the fact, though. If you're lucky, maybe Neil will even sign them for all the WE'ers.
