I was one of those that attended this event. Being a local, I couldn't believe that we'd be lucky enough to get him here before Sydney and Melbourne. This was the first signing that I'd ever attended in my entire life, so I was incredibly nervous. But the evening was just fantastic!

Neil actually informed us that he was publically reading material that he'd never tried in public before, so that was very exciting. He read two wonderful poems (which I strongly recommend everyone see if they can get) - "Before You Read", and another poem about the Bad Fairy Godmother (whose title I can't remember). Apparently the second poem has the word "unmannerly" (sic?) in it, which is why he's never read it in public. He also read Chapter 4 of The Graveyard Book. He has a mesmerizing delivery, and had all 200 of us totally entranced. I've never experienced anything like it in my entire life.

I even got my first Neil Gaiman book I ever bought (Death: The High Cost of Living) signed by him: "David. DON'T DIE!". Heh. I almost didn't get a ticket, so I'm incredibly grateful to the staff at Ellison Hawker Bookshop for organizing an unforgettable and amazing evening.
