So, is anyone going to Sundance this month to try to get into a MirrorMask screening?

I sooooo want to. But though I'd have somewhere to crash for free via my boss, airfare and other costs would be out of my own pocket. So I really shouldn't. But looking at the schedule on the Sundance site, the first screening is on my damn birthday, and if that isn't some deity's way of telling me to get my ass to Utah, I don't know what else is. But what if I flew all the way out there and couldn't get into the theater?

Sigh. Dither.

i wish.

actually, can you do that? just go and march right in?

i always assumed that for things like sundance or cannes you have to be on a List or Something.

Well, I think you have to pay the entrance price.

Yeah, I'm a little clueless about how it works. I mean, aside from the registration fee, I think there's some kind of prioritization for getting tickets, and that movies with a lot of advance buzz are much harder to get into.

I'm not part of the New Video contingent that goes to the film festivals, and this is the first year that I've really wanted to go. (I mean, I always thought it would be fun, but not in a "let's spend hundreds of dollars to make it happen" way.) But when I think of hearing about the screening and any Neil & Dave Q&A second-hand from my co-workers....ouch. There's probably going to be some fan in the audience who will post details on the web, but what if the theater is packed with the clueless?

I thought the website was a bit hard to make sense of - but I have heard it's a wonderful time- you could write it off mara, which would help you on next year's taxes. GO GO!! Wish I could manage it!

Glad to hear it! I am surprised there are no other posts for going to Sundance? Isn't anyone out there considering it? Wish it wasn't so close to after the holidays.

Whee! My boss just stopped by and, though I'll be sleeping on a cot in a hallway, and paying my own way, I'm going! Wheeeee! MirrorMask for my birthday!

YEH MARA!!!! What a great birthday present! I am sure you're going to enjoy it immensely. Wonder what the weather is like up there? Cold or frigid? No matter - you will be the first to see Mirrormask - and will have to let us poor pitiful things know how cool it is.

I was watching the news and Utah just got pummeled with a lot of snow. I really want to go there too but I'm a poor graduate student from Vancouver.

Will do! As of today I'm on the list for the 1/25 6:45pm screening. Neil (and Dave, I assume) will be doing a Q&A afterwards. I will try to come up with an interesting question, but, more likely I'll just listen and take notes for the board. (But a few of us from NVG will be meeting up with Neil sometime on the 23rd, so I'll say hello from everybody then :-)

Now I just have to book my flight. I was afraid to do it until I'd gotten the screening ticket confirmed, in case I jinxed it.

Dougie-Baby -- I wish you luck getting a ticket. You might have a shot, since the Tuesday screenings are in Salt Lake City instead of one of the Park City locations, and the big Sundance party starts at 5pm. I'm told it's the party with the best giveaways, but I'm pretty sure I'm skipping it to make sure I get to the theater with time to spare.
