Neil Gaiman to grace 20th Philippine Advertising Congress

Hi, I am too excited to see Neil here in the Philistines.

Fantasy writer Neil Gaiman captures the imagination of Filipinos once again as he gives a talk titled "The Gathering of Dreamlings and Nightmares" on November 24 (9 am) at El Centro, Subic Bay.

The British author of science fiction and fantasy literary works first visited the Philippines in July 2005 when he promoted his New York Times best-selling 2001 novel for adults, American Gods.

Gaiman is best known for his cult DC Comics series Sandman (Vertigo). His Sandman #19: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" took the 1991 World Fantasy Award for best short story, making it the first comic ever to be awarded a literary award.

There are two sets of heroes here. One is the writing team of author/graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary. They have genuinely solved the structural problem of the poem, written around 700 AD. The link between the early battles of a young hero and his fatal confrontation with the dragon as an aging king is his temptation by the monster's mother who dangles wealth, power and sexual favours before his bedazzled eyes. It makes sense that Beowulf's sins come back to haunt him.

We have the same line of thought, though, with petty difference. I want to live in a big country, surrounded by diverse tongues (not from the Tower of Babel) but from the scary mountains, where Kings are slaves and servants are emperors.
