Shoeless can i join u in stalking Sarah McLachlan? Shoeless and kurt who are u guys?? both are u are obviously some sort of pro writers. kurt yes i know the charges were for the rental of the cinema hall. i was just disappointed we didn't get to see the trailer of 'MirrorMask' on the 'big screen' as was advertised. but like i said, at least we got to see the 'behind-the-scene' clips, albeit short ones. |

Sarah's already been stalked by me once. I nearly pulled her off the stage during her Edmonton concert for the "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" album. As far as who I am, at the moment I'm most prevalent in articles for GameAxis, a free video game magazine distributed to game stores, cafes and outlets like Deli-France. It also has a website. I do more than that, but that's the writing I'm least embarrassed by since it's just goofy gaming fun, a subject near and dear to my heart after A) my fiance B) pursuing a career as a novelist. In that order. My particular questions to Neil from the press conference will be appearing in the August issue of GameAxis, but Kurt was there, so he already knows they were geeky questions... |

ok, finally, the synopsis of Neil Gaiman's last public bookstore signing on 6th July. (was it just a couple days ago that i met the King of Dreams??).
met up with the nice bunch of gals from the day before. met only 1 security person today who was obviously getting a power trip from telling people not to step over an invisible line, eg. he seemed very satisfied after telling a scholarly, meek looking woman to step back just 3 inches, and she wasn't a fan, she was merely trying to look at what's going on. now, we are NOT talking about people 'doing their jobs'. these are the 'Huffs and Puffs' of the world who go amok when given some sort of authority, however small it actually is. and these people tend to only flex their 'authority' at people they perceive to be 'lesser' than them. and this particular Mr Puff did prove this point through a few incidences. other than that, the experience was a much more pleasant one than the night before. we managed to get quite a few photos with Neil and it was all quite pleasant and civilised. poor Neil though. he actually turned out earlier than the expected time and signed till very late. i didn't see him have a break for HOURS! i think he must have broken some kind of record for signing! after we all parted, it was almost like the end of an era, albeit a very short era. Hi Guys...Welcome!
Sorry for intruding but I've enjoyed reading your Neil adventures. There are more adventures in the Tour Forum which I think some of you may have found. ---------------------------- Official Pineapple Master General of the Realm of Unproductivity and Procrastination He said 'It's all in your head,' and I said, 'So's everything' But he didn't get it.... |

yes, i've read a few from the 'Tour Forum'. and i have to say that i can emphasize very strongly with those that feel the bureaucrats here seem to think that locals here are narrow-minded and live in a small square box, probably like themselves (the bureaucrats). to approve anything that seems to encourage any sort lateral or creative thinking, or actually any sort of individual thinking, seems too outrageous a concept for the REAL 'powers that be' to consider. and then 'they' wonder why there's a dearth of creativity here - 'coz 'they' keep stamping it out! although in recent years, 'they' have been trying to give a very superficial glaze to the 'support' of the arts here.
not to mention i've always wondered why are books and any sort of reading material SO ridiculously taxed in Sg, making them SO expensive! i would've thought if 'they' wanted a thinking population, 'they' would try to encourage reading. but then, sheep are so much easier to control eh. BUT then 'they' come back round and wonder about the lack of strong leadership and entrepreneurialship, which are all linked to the same characteristic - the ability to think for oneself. and let's not even mention the ridiculous double, nay, triple! standards in censorship. on a most positive note - i met the most number of interesting and creative people i've ever met in recent years in the queue at Neil Gaiman's signing. i hope that those young people are truly the future of Sg. like what is happening in Hollywood now, where the generation that grew up with comics are now in positions of power/influence to get their fav comic characters on the big screen. yes! well, i think the 'huffs and puffs" (to quote sidhe) were more of the borders staff.. i was really quite unimpressed with them. didn't really have much of an impression of the british council people (other than them all laughing at poor starstruck me)..
hmm, on the 6th, i started queueing at 2pm.. which meant 4 hours of not sitting down since the security guard obviously found the sight of us sitting down very offensive. got my book signed at 7pm, went for dinner, and a movie. guess what? when we headed back to wheelock place, neil gaiman was still there! it was impressive =) can we flood the british council with pleas to bring neil gaiman back to singapore? |

you can,...mr gaiman has even stated if you want him back you can write to British Council and wheels will be set in motion, i shudder to consider putting him through another grinder of a signing though, i'd wonder if some smart people would organise a longer screening and/or a longer talk and q/a.s to be screened so that sensible questions would be asked ( i'd wished the younger/newer fellas would check his FAQs before subjecting him to some queries...)
i'd doubt we could do without signings... |

i have to say my frens say i descended to rabid fanboyhood so i have no complaints about ur questions, i actually prepared a list of questions pertaining to his FAQs, interviews, upcoming proposed work etc so i was quite perturbed by those who kept asking him stuff tt he says on his site to read his FAQs before asking them again... so although i thought they needn't have been rabid fangeeks, i thought they should have at least read the FAQs, instead of asking questions tt i could answer for the man... |
