You are a Tradesman. Long before labor unions, your guilds were powerful enough to make a free-market capitalist run away screaming. Who controls the British Crown? Who keeps the metric system down? You do, you do.

I don`t know if anyone here is old, or British enough to remember a satirical news show from the Eighties called `Not the 9 o clock news`, but that once featured a brilliant skit on an ad by the Welsh Development Agency to promote inward investment entitled `Made from Whales` which listed all the cetacean based products on the shelf. I `m now on my way to pick up some bargain soap not to mention exercise the `Meat` option... Wink

quote:
For 4 servings
600 g whalemeat cut into strips
1 red pepper in strips
3 stalks of celery in small pieces
10 sliced mushrooms
1 small tin of sliced bamboo shoots
1 sliced onion
3-4 tablespoons of soya oil
1 teaspoon of grated ginger
1/2 dl soya sauce
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch flour
1 dl vegetable stock
salt and pepper

Warm the oil in a wok or deep frying pan.
Add the meat and fry quickly until brown.
Sprinkle some salt and pepper on the meat.
Remove the meat from the pan and keep it warm.
Fry the vegetables quickly until soft.
Stir ginger, soya sauce, vegetable stock and flour together.
Pour the mixture into the pan and let it boil.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Add the fried meat and serve with jasmine rice.

I`m more amazed a girl your age is still into vinyl actually. As to the skits, my favourites were the social policy debate that ended with a consensus on `cutting off their goolies` and another of Pamela Stephenson as a bank teller with *the* best pre-Howard sales pitch ever! Big Grin

It was a nice distraction. I think it has never happened since 1913 or as long as they have be keeping records on the subject.
Yes in the whole scheme of things it was probably not worthy of the coverage that it got.

On the bright side of the story, ambergris otherwise known as whale puke is worth a ton of money.

I wonder how many dodgy Vindaloos and cans of cheap Australian lager(XXXX, VB?) it would take to make a whale puke? Unless it`s a sperm whale in which case the animal only needs to gag Wink

You are an Illuminator. You add color and beauty to anything you can get your hands on: books, tavern signs, clocks, small barnyard animals. While your work goes largely unappreciated, at least it pays the bills. Why, that enormous golden M you painted for the new Scottish restaurant down the street netted you a farthing!

Yup, and furthermore our culinary sado-masochism was transmitted across the globe from the United States to New Zealand by our intrepid colonists..

Also what is heartless about taking the piss out of one stupid dead whale, or the media?

Of course i don't think the japanese should still be hunting them, but really humanity has already killed the poor buggars, no matter how much conservation efforts we go to, so to do so much for one particularily stupid one is just well stupid.
