I'm one of those people who has never really been on a first date, given that all of my relationships have tended to grow very suddenly out of friendships or online stuff where, by the time we met in person, the fact that we were going to be going out and had a physical interest in each other was already certain. (And after you're together, it's not really a date anymore to go out to a movie or restaurant together, is it?)

Probably the closest thing I have to a true shitty dating experience is with a girl named Erin I had a bit of a crush on in my teenage years. Our mothers were friends and her mother loved me. Erin herself was interested in a guy that mom didn't approve of, and kinda trying to see him on the sly despite that. She agreed to go to one dance with me mostly to get her mom off her back and allay mom's suspicions about her other dating interest. She made all of this pretty clear during the night and a couple of later conversations.
