Lesson for next time, learned by someone who just learned this a week or so ago: when you say something ass-faced and ill-wrought, say, "I said something ass-faced and ill-wrought. Sorry about that." Better yet, look at what you're about to post and think, "Is this ass-faced and ill-wrought?"

Do it quickly, do it clearly and do it in a very conciliatory manner. Yeah, it sucks that other people take your words out of context, but unless you're willing to take ownership over them, you can't even really say that "your words" are taken out of context, can you?

Oh, I'm not sorry that I stirred up the nest, just saying that I did so.

I am willing to take ownership of my intent, and only my intent. I will take ownership of the fact that I might not have been clear. However not being clear is not the same thing as a misconstrewed intent. If that makes any sense.

As a completely uninvolved bystander with no dog in this hunt so to speak as I don't post very much, I can say with calm, clear precision: Panda, you seem to have a problem with basic communication, regardless of intent. Look at what Dweller wrote; look at your response. Your response doesn't match. At all. He brought up several points, you didn't even address one much less all of his points, but instead continued to defend yourself which wasn't necessary because he's not attacking. I can only encourage you to try reading what he wrote again. But I won't hold my breath. You keep proving that you're incapable of reading whole posts (I doubt you're still reading this one). But it sure would be nice if you would learn that skill.

The question of racism is really a difficult thing to disprove. I've read both threads from begining to end now and I have to say that I whole heartedly disagree with the assumption that Panda is a "racist."

He said quite clearly that he was not endorsing the stereotypes, just that he noticed those stereotypes in his general area. That is not racist in the least bit. It's important.

Also, the fact that people assumed he's racist because he made a racial statement, a statement that questions prejudices, proves that he is - if nothing else - trying to discuss and evaluate racial experiences he's had.

Lastly, I do not think he had trouble making himself clear. When I read his post i had no trouble understanding what he was saying.

Racism isnt the acknowledge ment that people are different, that there are stereotypes (leaning both positive and negative effects, and of different strengths), or even someone who makes a point of pointing out a persons race.

Black people who attend every black wide release movie arent racist, they're racial. they are trying to support the idea that black entertainment is worth spending money on.

Even saying things like "black movies" is not racist.

Racist means a person who succumbs to a racial arguement. Saying "all black movies suck because they're all about gang bangers and drugs" is a racist statement.

Its good to be racial. To be aware of the people around you and their history and the way they see things. Its good to really discuss racial thinking and stereotypes.

I am glad Panda made the initial thread and I've learned from it.

Oh really...this is such a stupid thread. I thought the Board was above this.

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

Plus almost everyone has been or is a little racist!

Maybe you lot just have different views on what constitues being racist, or have stigatism connected to the word, it is human nature to gang up against those that are different, or to bond with those that are similar, its that whole rising above our instincts thing,

Yah know, in the real world outside the board people say things like "I like Asian girls" or "Irish girls are hot" or "i see lots of white women with Asian girls" "yeah, as an anime fan thats what I'm into"

so it might be wrong or racists or whatever, but people actually talk like that in the real world. often teenagers, bullshitting about stuff, talk like this. hell, some of us even have our own preferences on stuff like this

i mean, i heard two similar discussions yesterday - one among university students and one with me and my dad

so i'm just saying/stirring the pot

Well maybe I expected more from what I hitherto perceived as a largely enlightened group of people. I've got no opinion on Panda's views. If he believes something, I'm in my right to say if I agree or not, or if his views are repugnant, but I do not believe in persecution. This thread is persecution, a witch hunt.

Yes I agree with you there Hal, but there's attacking, which is fine, and there's persecution. This thread serves no purpose other than the rub someone's nose in it. I know this is Flame Wars and it's there to air grievances, but this is something I find outrageous.

Have you read the full thread? The persecution is mostly kept to the first part of the thread and, by the topic starters admission, was not really intended to be persecutory from the start. We've been over this with Fallen. Panda said some things Tongster found racist, by his definition, Panda got defensive, so Tonster started this thread to work out that defensiveness. That's about it.

Most of this thread is just amiably telling a poster who's clumsy with his words that he's clumsy with his words, little more. If that's persecution, it's a pretty broad definition.

Oh...ok. Sorry everyone, I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Trampolines . . . ah, sigh, they were a wonderful part of my childhood. Gosh, the mere thought brings me back like, like a time machine. [insert MST3K mocking of Jack Perkins right about now . . . ]
