As you may or may not know, the permanant FAQ in the FAQ forum is out of date. (That is completely the fault of me, GMZoe, who keeps putting it off. I will, I swear!!!) However, we have addressed the issue of what photos are acceptable to post on the board before, both posted or by link. We thought it'd be an appropriate time to repost and update the policy to address something we hadn't considered before.

The current policy is: No nudity may be posted in the general forums except by labeled link. This is because so many people check the boards from school or work. Linked photos still can't be explicit. It's hard to define boundaries, so use your best sense. Flame Wars is more lenient. It is implied (and we should be relabeling it soon too) that Flame Wars is not work safe. Remember those images in the other forums you could only link to? In Flame Wars, they may be posted, but not constantly (meaning a specificly "Porn!" thread is still not cool.) We're a very free forum, but we don't want to push our luck by having an excessive amount of questionable photos. We reserve the right to cull the herd of photos if we feel we need to. (Do photos group in herds? Flocks? Albums I guess...) Be kind to your mods.

The update to the policy is: No nude images of the posters will be allowed. Cleavage, fine. No nipples! This isn't a private forum among friends, it's a public website, and the idea of weirdos stealing images of our friends is not something we like.

well, the discussion about nipples left one mod thinking 'ok, no nipples at all' and one thinking 'ok, whatever is allowed in public' and we never finalized a view on male nipples. Somehow, it wasn't as interesting a topic to discuss.

Not that I care all that much, but I believe that there have been male nipples in several threads, some not in Flame Wars. The old, archived (I'm assuming) Pictures of Posters thread, for example.

It's an issue that is hard to define, which is why we didn't. We're not trying to make law level rules filling in loopholes after all, just guidelines...
How does one write up what is and is not allowed with art so that Michaelangelo's David is allowed but hentai is not? Use your best judgement. So far, I believe Dweller took down a picture of Reagan as a penis from WE (posted as part of a review of some comic, I never saw it) but we allowed in Flame wars a female fairy full frontal. And she was shaved.

What it boils down to is: use your best judgement. We'll take it down if it goes too far. We just posted this to let people know our feelings on the potential boobie menace, but nothing else has changed. If someone is really worried that something they want to post is inappropriate, they can email one of us mods about it before you post (probably not dweller as he mostly mods from work)

To clarify, I made the picture of the severed penis with Reagan's head into a link, and more because it was severed than because of its penisness. That and the fact that one of the other images was of a man vigorously masturbating.
