HERETIC'S FINAL JOURNEY IN TIME:

What is Witchcraft?

Witchcraft, in various historical, religious and mythological contexts, is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a person who practices witchcraft, and may be male or female. In historical, mythological and demonological contexts a male "witch" is more frequently termed a wizard, sorcerer, warlock, or simply a magician. Male witches who practise as such as part of a Wiccan or Pagan belief system disapprove of the term 'Warlock' as the accepted meaning of the word is 'Oath breaker,' or one who has abandoned the coven.

The term witchcraft, in post-Christian European cultures has historically been associated with evil and the Devil.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the most probable origins of the word witch are the Old English noun forms wicca (m.) and wicce (f.) from the OE verb wiccian ('to practise witchcraft', 'to put a spell upon (a person)') and from a Proto-Germanic predecessor thereof.

Practices to which the witchcraft label have historically been applied are those which influence another person's body or property against his or her will, or which are believed, by the person doing the labelling, to undermine the social or religious order. Some modern commentators, especially neopagan ones, consider the malefic nature of witchcraft to be a Christian projection. Witchcraft can also be a magical art alone, not necessarily part of a religion.Saint Boniface declared in the eighth century that belief in the existence of witches is unchristian.
Although defined differently in disparate historical and cultural contexts, witchcraft has often been seen, especially in the West, as the work of crones who meet secretly at night, indulge in cannibalism and orgiastic rites with the Devil, and perform black magic.

The Catholic Encyclopedia says this

...In Witchcraft, as commonly understood, there is involved the idea of a diabolical pact or at least an appeal to the intervention of the spirits of evil. In such cases this supernatural aid is usually invoked either to compass the death of some obnoxious person, or to awaken the passion of love in those who are the objects of desire, or to call up the dead, or to bring calamity or impotence upon enemies, rivals, and fancied oppressors. This is not an exhaustive enumeration, but these represent some of the principal purposes that witchcraft has been made to serve at nearly all periods of the world's history.

There is a lot of misinformation that assumes the witch craze was at the heart of Catholic Inquisition. It is true the Church put witches on trial. The the Bull (bulletin) "Summis desiderantes affectibus", of Pope Innocent VIII (1484) dealt with witchcraft and heresy. Henrick Kramer and James Sprenger, inquisitors put out a manual called "Malleus Maleficarum" (the hammer of witches). It was a bad book.

Witches and The Inquisition

This Date in History: Inquisition & Witches
May 19, 1487: The Faculty of Theology at the University of Cologne endorsed Heinrich Kramer and Johann Sprenger's Malleus Maleficarum (The Witch Hammer), a guide used by the Inquisition for the diagnosis, behavior, trial, and punishment of witches. This book would go through nineteen editions over the next two centuries and was an important basis for some of the gruesome tortures applied to people accused of deviant behavior.

In the last 20 years virtually all reputable secular historians have revised witch death rates to 40,000-60,000 and less than 500 witch deaths caused directly by the Church through the Inquisition.

Although these deaths are inexcusable, they are a long way from the 9 million number quoted in the Nation Film Board's popular (but unhistorical) movie called "The Burning Times."

Jenny Dobbins belongs to a wiccan movement and she is also an historian. If anyone should be against the Church it would be her. She wrote an article found on the pagan web site "Covenant of the Goddess." Although the site and the wiccan path in general make me cringe, her article is stunning. She has an MA in medieval history and a minor in the Great Hunt. I have a great respect for the integrity with which she reveals the truth about the burning times to her wiccan associates. The full article is here: http://www.cog.org/witch_hunt.html

With these factual and historical backdrop, may I now begin the DEBATE:

should witches now, today, be again burned at the patios or fed to lions in the arena?

So do you have anything to actually say, are you merely going to quote from all possible sources while adding nothing to your own "debate". Or are you just spamming?

And to answer the question, no, period, end of story.

I favor the gas chambers execution of all witches rather than burning at the stakes or patios, for they are still humans in form but devil inside their own spirits;

in utter secrecy, witches would be classified as whites and blacks, portraying themselves as civilized folks who are utterly protected by the constitutions' of the world religious free exercise;

but in reality, they are garbages of society, evil - cannibals so to speak;

man has yet to find a better hatchery of justice than the burning of witches as in the inquisition periods;

lethal injection without trial so as to deter others from being victimized by them;

they are scattered everywhere and pollutes the ozone layers.

Confused

why, because devils are killed by gas and not burning? and why does burning at their patio cause such a problem? suburban homes across the world provide ample patio space for any hex-immolation needs

so, to preserve justice you propose lethal injection without trial?

why do we attract all the whackjobs?

Is there some sort of subliminal message out there on the net saying, If you're a complete loony, then come and spout your nonsense at World's End!

Come one, come all! Grab your soapbox! Just don't be too upset when the regular denizens jeer at you.

Actually, that's the only reason I read these bizarre threads - for the insults! Smile

Hi, this is a forum which does not believe in witches. Even if we do, we don't believe in killing anyone for being one.

Good day.

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

Maeve, since I've been here I've actually gone and looked at other message boards.
OUR whackjobs are few and far between comparatively.

I don't really bother going anywhere else (except for two other boards that can't get rid of me if they tried Smile ) but yeah, I tried out several boards before stumbling onto this one and feeling right at home.

My only regret is that I didn't waste all that time on other boards and find this place sooner!

Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

Rather sadly, this lends credence to the idea that he is just an ordinary common-or-garden social misfit sitting in his spare room in[insert name of suburb here], and that there are *sob* no invisible dwarves at all.....

Judge, if you are listening, go write a dysfunctional novel instead. You certainly have the imagination for it.
