No, you might not point out, Murphy.

She made the first statement, while at the same time pointing out her qualification to make that statement since she was on the house intelligence committee. Keep in mind this was 1998 not the Bush era. It was one of her addresses to congress.

She's a typical politician. She talks out of her ass and she says one thing, then when it isn't popular, she says another.

She's a typical politician, who just happens to represent one of the most affluent districts in the US and spends the most and raises the most to get where she is.

Are you mad at the Democrats or mad at politicians?

Distrustful of most politicians. It isn't a party thing.

I just hope nobody is delusional enough to think that Pelosi stands for the common hardworking class and integrity in politics. There's enough out there to say otherwise.

Considering her position, she could ruin it for the Democratic party. Google Presidio Partners and PAC for starters.

I'm leaning toward Obama now for several reasons, I just wish he'd change his stance on the gun control.

i have no real idea who Pelosi is or what she stands for... beyond that she and Bush loathe each other.

But i still say those quotes prove nothing.

she says... "which is a threat to countries in the region" then "There was never anything in the intelligence that said Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States, never."

I don't see the disconnect, or the hypocrisy there.

Sorry

I'll post the whole thing Murphy. It's from the her House of Representatives website.

Statement on US Military Led Strike

December 16, 1998

quote:
As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware that the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons is an issue of grave importance to all nations. Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.

The responsibility of the United States in this conflict is to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, to minimize the danger to our troops and to diminish the suffering of the Iraqi people. The citizens of Iraq have suffered the most for Saddam Hussein's activities; sadly, those same citizens now stand to suffer more. I have supported efforts to ease the humanitarian situation in Iraq and my thoughts and prayers are with the innocent Iraqi civilians, as well as with the families of U.S. troops participating in the current action.

I believe in negotiated solutions to international conflict. This is, unfortunately, not going to be the case in this situation where Saddam Hussein has been a repeat offender, ignoring the international community's requirement that he come clean with his weapons program. While I support the President, I hope and pray that this conflict can be resolved quickly and that the international community can find a lasting solution through diplomatic means.

1)In 1998, she clearly outlines it's the United States responsibility to handle Saddam Hussein.

2)She has ruled out further negotiations as she feels they longer an option with Saddam.

3)She calls for quick resolution to the conflict. Wait, she just ruled out negotiations. so is that a military strike?
I guess the title of her statement implies that.

4)After the quick resolution, she calls for the rest of the world to find a long lasting resolution. You'll find no argument with me on that. Why shouldn't the rest of the world take some responsibility in keeping Saddam and his regime in check?

You're right Murphy, they are not directly contradictory. These statements along with other statements by congress PRIOR to Bush's election, illustrate that congress wanted action against Saddam Hussein, even before Bush became president.

Listening to Pelosi's tune now, it's as if Bush acted completely alone with no congressional foreknowledge or prejudice regarding Saddam Hussein, even prior to Bush's election. She's the third in power in the US. Yet she isn't willing to take any responsibility for perpetuating the WMD stories on Iraq.

My point is, maybe as armchair critics of the war in Iraq, some of us haven't been barking up all the right trees , as far as responsibility and accountability. Bush isn't absolved from error, but congress has been fed and has been feeding WMD intelligence regarding Iraq, to the rest of congress long before Bush even took office. It's naive to think Iraq is all Bush's fault. You'll find Kerry involved in similar statments in addresses to congress. He won't take any responsibility either.

Clinton even signed the "Iraqi regime change" into law on 10/31/1998 the Iraq Liberation Act, with overwhelming congressional support both Democratic and Republican.

As speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi is going to cause a lot of harm to the Democratic party. A party I have a lot of hope for.

BTW-this all started because of my sig, didn't it?

I've read yours as passive aggressive statements against the US and Christianity.

I've always spoken highly of you, Murphy.

Murphy, thanks for letting me air that out. It was therapeutic.

For some reason today, I was reminded Nancy Pelosi existed and I needed to vent. It must have been a newspaper or something that reminded me of her.

back to your regularly scheduled arguments.
