Yep. Off the top of my head, It's good to be me because:

  • I've got great friends who want to spend time with me and who I enjoy spending time with
  • I'm at University, learning n stuff!
  • I gots me a chap who likes me
  • I'm relativly creative
  • After a long time, I'm finally digging myself out of that massive rut I was in and every day my self-confidence and self-esteem is on the up (apart from the usual occasional blip)
  • I've got a big world of stuff to discover, and I've only just begun...

I do not suck because:

- I managed to get out of my party phase with at least a few brain cells in tact
- I can usually manage to step out of whatever crappy situation I'm in and laugh at myself
- I'm learning, and getting better at, not only laughing at myself, but feeling actually good about myself
- despite the amount of slack I perceive in myself, grad school is going well
- I have awesome, funny, supportive friends

"Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying 'yes' begins things. Saying 'yes' is how things grow. Saying 'yes' leads to knowledge."

It is warm and comfortable in here. The room is filled with warm colours. There is a soft bed waiting and the fridge is filled with food.

There is a bathtub and a shower, soap and warm water at any time I want it.

Nobody is waging war, here. I don't have to be afraid of getting killed when I walk outside alone. I am not afraid of ever having to starve or freeze in this country or being tortured. I have never had to steal or kill for a living.

I did not have to work for my living as a child. My parents sent me to a school and I was taught to read and write. Then they let me study at university. I have the best education they could give me. I have always had a future and the knowledge that if I wanted one then I would have to work for it.

I have money and time for anything important and several unimportant things to boot. I earn my money by doing something that is interesting and that gives me the opportunity to do things I like - write and ask questions.

When I write the stories I come up with, I am amazed every time that something coherent and good comes out of it.

I am amazed by the support and love I get from people around me. People want me to do what I enjoy doing because they want me to be happy. I have so many people to turn to when I am happy and when I am sad.

I am not sick, I am not dying even though I could have died. I am healthy and capable and coping and well.

There are so many reasons why it is good to be me.

In addition to everything BtB said:

Coming to realize and appreciate all the gifts I've been given: I'm young, smart, creative, healthy, (and in the best shape of my life), and, much to my amazement, I seem to have developed something of a magnetic effect on the opposite sex in recent years. (Which somewhat puzzles but nonetheless pleases me).

In the past two years I've only suffered rare and brief flare ups of the depressions that used to torment me, have barely spent any time in a Mixed State, I live in a country of overwhelming plenty when there are so many nations out there where this is not the case, and even though I'm dead broke I'm not in massive debt like so many people my age that I know. Somehow I've managed to make my way here without any permanent or debilitating injuries, with my mental problems under control, and without becoming an alcoholic or drug addict like my parents or so many old friends. And I've had the pleasure of knowing an awful lot of cool people along the way.

So yeah, I'm pretty happy to be me right now. Big Grin

I've just had the best Easter I can remember, eating a massive four course meal with my family, writing songs at the harmonium and sitting my baby cousin grace up by the keys. Smile No-one expected me to make it through school, and I'm now in uni. I know I can completely trust my friends, and I hate no-one. I've worked out where I'm going wrong in relationships and know it can be fixed. I've been in love and survived. Nothing but death will stop me from getting where I want in life, and that hopefully won't happen for some time yet.

I think I'll post in both threads.
1. My thesis is going well
2. I've made a lot of new friends
3. I'm in Liverpool, and it's awesome!
4. I'm finally doing something I really enjoy.
5. I'm actually happy with what I look like.
And I'll post in both threads, because without the sadder things, I would n't be able to appreciate these points.

1. I have some really good friends
2. I'm going to college to be able to do what I love (art) for hopefully the rest of my life
3. I'm actually becoming fairly happy with who I am

You are an Illuminator. You add color and beauty to anything you can get your hands on: books, tavern signs, clocks, small barnyard animals. While your work goes largely unappreciated, at least it pays the bills. Why, that enormous golden M you painted for the new Scottish restaurant down the street netted you a farthing!

I'm smart, talented, funny, charismatic, and almost never have trouble learning or doing something.
I have better friends than you do. I don't care how good yours are. They can't be cooler than these people
My family is tough, and certain of them I love to death.
I have a dog who has proven she has my back in a fight, even if I'm just roughhousing with friends, and who would bark down my dad (who she's scared of) if he tried yelling at me.
I've got someone who wants to do music together. And we work very well together. We really could make it big.
You guys, I luv you guys.
Music. It makes me happy.

I have a superb, enjoyable job, even if I probably spend too much time at it.

My house is lovely.

I've got another one in reserve

My parents are cool and have a rock solid marriage.

The rest of my family are all well.

I have more toys than is, frankly, fair.

All I need is love.

I have good friends.
I have experienced love.
I have a degree that I worked hard for.

I have been hit on by several people in the last few weeks.
I have gone on dates.

I am a damn good cook.
I am damn good in bed.

All in all I am relatively happy.

Plus all that BtB said.

I have adequate food and clean water.

If I can't find a job and end up unemployed, again, my parents are happy to have me move in with them until I find something (mixed blessing, but still).

I have good friends all over the world.

When I go over to my parent's, the big boycat sits in my lap and demands pettin's. That makes things a lot better.

Can I sig this? I can't stop giggling...

1. I have a warm shoulder I can curl up on at night. (This can also go in the sucks to be me thread since I can no longer fall asleep at night unless I am laying on it : )
2. I have a frosty cool can of Vernors beside me while I type.
3. I have a job that I enjoy, and at which I don't fantasize killing everyone. (50/50)
4. All my bills are getting paid, and I am still able to buy books. Food if there is any left over.
5. I can play with power tools anytime I want to.
