Just finished reading this recent Neil Gaiman short story from McSweeney's Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales and though I enjoyed it, re-reading it has still left me baffled as to what actually happened at the end...
Who is that elderly man at the end? He doesn't speak until the last section, and seems to know all the characters in the story.
How does he relate to the story? The narrator of the story is only 29 years old by the description, yet this elderly man seems to know all the kids from the story.
What happened in the play house?
What happened to Simon? The old man says Douglas killed himself and Jamie died "not long after father did."
Who is this 29 years old narrating the story about the Swallows in the club?
So many questions, if anyone has read it, please help me decipher this short story!
