I discovered Mr. Hero, unfortunately, in the unsold comics bin at my local store. I was soon scouring the whole fifteen boxes in the back of the store to try to find more.

Last I saw, Mr. Hero was essentially blown to pieces. WTF?

  • Was there a triumphant, happy ending that happened later in episodes I haven't found yet?
  • Was it a sudden cut-off from the publisher, and therefore you wrote one last comic as an intentional end to the series?
  • Was it your intent from the beginning to end the series this way??

Hello. First of all, it seems your questions are directed towards Neil, who doesn't contribute to the boards. Second, and more importantly, Neil didn't actually write Mr. Hero. A company called Tekno comics paid a bunch of big name sci-fi people, Neil included, to provide concepts for them to work. Beyond the initial premise, Neil was not involved with the Mr.Hero comic.

On to your specific question. Although I own Mr.Hero, I have not gotten around to reading it yet. What I can tell you is that there were 18 issues: V.1 #1-17 and V.2 #1. The last two issues were part of a company wide story crossing over into all of their titles.

Okay cool thanks for the reminders about the nature of this forum.

Could you peak at the last two issues as a personal favor? Wink Does the robot known as Mr. Hero get blown apart on some kind of big fan and does the evil lizard go on ruling? Is that essentially the end of the narrative?

Thanks.

What you're describing is in V.2 #1, the last issue. The lizard guy, Teknophage, had his own series as well.
Looking in an Overstreet book, Mr. Hero ended in June 1996, and TeknoComix kept publishing at least til 1997 (when another Neil originated series, Lady Justice, ended), so I'm going to assume that the series was intentionally ended and didn't just cease to exist when the company did.

Unfortunately Tekno / Big Entertainment put the comic on highatus(sp?) and latter they went out of business.

I think the author of the series intended that to be a cliff hanger.
Notice that the hand came to Earth.
Teknophage didn't destroy either of Mr. Hero's Head.

My fan theory is that a rebel type person would steal the two heads and use one of the remains of the robots in the desert to restore Mr. Hero.

By the way I've got every Mr. Hero issue, the complete crossover story, and many of the Teknophage books.

I really wish I knew of a Mr. Hero fan page I could give you, but . .
Any way there is some very good info on the web, but you have to search for it.
There is a great interview out there with Neil Gaiman talking about what characters and story elements that he made for Mr. Hero. and other Tekno books.
I wish I could find it right now . . it may take a few minutes of careful google searching, but It should still be around.

I've also seen a few interesting scraps of info about the fall of Tekno / Big Entertainment.

Oh, the artist and / or inker may still have some pictures of Mr. Hero in the online portfolio.

I've got some of the info backed up somewhere, but I can't find out where it is right now.
