Hey people,

I'm interested in buying Neil's book, Neverwhere,
however, while I was taking a look of its prices at Amazon, I got very confused due to the fact this book has more editions than there are ants in the world, lol.

There are diffrent reprints from 1997 up to 2007, though there is only one version for it in HardCover...

So, to the main questions, which edition do you most recommend me to buy, and why? [I Do not mind spending the extra few bucks for the hard cover, as long as I know that it IS the correct and best version of all those other versions it has out there].

Thanks,

-W.H.

The biggest choise would depend on your location. The american version has more description of London and the subway system, as I recall. So if you don't know London, you might want the american version.

I forget what other differences there are.

He made a US edition because a lot of us in the US wouldn't get some of the jokes about London seeing as most Americans have not lived in London or been there long enough to know these jokes. That and some of the words the British use would have made it confusing for some Americans...like saying "pavement" instead of "sidewalk" since, in the US, "pavement" refers to the actual road.

You want the Author's preferred text. This is available currently in the UK but can be bought easily enough via amazon UK. It's the black covered paperback with a rat on it. The author's preferred text will be the version on the upcoming audio book, unabridged, read by Neil. I don't know if the forthcoming audio book will mean the author's preferred text will be available in the US as a hardcover or not.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but they did this two version thing with Harry Potter books too. My mom has both versions of them all, and I've looked several over as well. I don't see why someone feel the need translate wording. Maybe this is so *poor americans* can figure out things such jumpers not being the same here as there, but then I've used the sentence context to figure things out too. Maybe that's just me. ;P
