With all the recent talks of movies and books, me and my friend decided to take it another step, which book do you think would make the best GAME. I hardly ever play playstation2, but I think I could get hooked on a Neverwhere game.
the way I see it, there would be a ton of video sequences, but some of the more interesting game features would be: going over "the nightmare bridge". fighting the beast the ordeal searching for door finding the door during the party with out confronting the ex and thered be a lot of other little bits and peices that i cant think of exactly, of course. Going through the whole london underworld, and evertying, there could also be a bonus game where you play as a fighter in the bodygaurd tornament. I think out of all Neil's books, this would be the most fun to acctually play, unlike a Good Omens, which would just be so much fun to watch. Or American Gods, which is just so much damned fun, period. |

Neverwhere might work as a good setting, but rarely do stories cross media such as this with good results. The structure and style of what makes a good game is just to different from what makes a good novel, in my oppinion.

*shrug* in an RPG, she could randomly cast status ailements (Confuse, Poison, Frog [turns people into frogs], Stone, whatever) on the party or enemies would be the most annoying thing in the world we had this discussion before. i could see him writing a Final Fantasy game (with Yoshitaka Amano art, of course) or a similar RPG Neverwhere would be the best... have it as an action/adventure with RPG elements, 'cause thats my fave type of game |

If I ever make a home brew RPG, I was considering including the endless as Summons who cause damage and status effects, ei: Del would cause confusion, Dream sleep, Desire charm, Despair Stone, Death would have an instant kill precentage, and Destiny would be Death Sentence.

Well, my dad has a Sandman tabletop roleplaying game. So, perhaps it could work as some sort of video game RPG.

You add color and beauty to anything you can get your hands on: books, tavern signs, clocks, small barnyard animals. While your work goes largely unappreciated, at least it pays the bills. Why, that enormous golden M you painted for the new Scottish restaurant down the street netted you a farthing! |

hmmm... makes sense, in an abstract sense (which is how games like Kingdom Hearts work, where you can do the same thing with guys like Simba and Jack Skellington) i'm guessing the DC Comics RPG has them as uber-NPCs who the PCs may interact with, but not really fight or play? i've seen homebrew RPGs based on Gaimishish ideas... a friend told me that White Wolf's 'Changling: The Dreaming' was kinda all Gaiman, hence the name. but thats not computer games.. for videogames or computer games, a Neverwhere game would work best. hell, the setting is enough for a good game, though having it be ALL underground dungeon crawl might get annoying i'm going to say Bioware (the guys who did Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Republic) should do it, 'cause they're the best. on the other hand, if you get Square (the Final Fantasy people) to do it, its much less flexible... but you get your Yoshitaka Amano art, since he often works for them |

Personally, I could see the Endless as fitting into a Shin Megami Tensei title.

i REALLY want one of those translated into English, especially one on an early system that i have emulated...don't you make deals with demons to fight for you?

That is correct. If you can find them, you can play the Persona games or Nocturne (Lucifer's Call in PAL) for the newer systems. Persona is a spin-off, Nocturne is a sequel where you can recruite demons. Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Turner was another spin-off recently releashed, and the Demi-Kids games are watered down versions to play on the GBA. Also, there are several places to find fan-translated patchs from the ROMS of SMT1&2. But, there is a chance Atlus will releash english version for the Nintendo DS. |

Hmm Stardust would make a perfect adventure game along the lines of The Longest Journey and Wishbringer. Hmm come to think of it, most Gaiman's works would probably work wonderfuly as IF. Sigh, Infocom where art thou...

there is a homebrew IF scene... but yeah, if Infocom was good enough for Douglas Adams it should be good enough for Neil
i'm still liking a Neverwhere game, though i guess it might start resembling another dungeon crawl... maybe Nippon Ichi, the guys who did Phantom Brave and Disgea could do it? i've heard the games are quirky and odd... |

I like the possibility of "Neverwhere" as an MMORPG. Particularly if it's more than Just London Below. It could be a real neat AR project, too. (AR=Augmented Reality. It's the idea of combining the cyberspace and the real world.) i'm not into MMORPGs, and if i played one it'd be World of Warcraft
the problem is that underground caverns, aka 'dungeons', are such an RPG cliche. and they're dark |
