How come that Richard could see Door?

I never noticed the explanation for that in the book, although the question how could he notice her in London Above is brought up towards the end.

Ever notice how some people are likely to see something you'd never notice? Some people aren't meant for a mundane desk job, but are meant to be somewhere else?

Also, she threw herself at his feet, more or less. Later on, when Richard has been underground for a while, and goes above ground, people can see him when he confronts them directly, but then they forget he's there, and their attention slips to other things.

Door caught his attention, and being who Richard is, he notes the blood and tries to help. Someone like Jessica would notice her at first, subconciously file the situation away as undesirable, and move on.

It's not that people in London Above can't see those from London Below, it's just that they don't see them.

Maure.

or listening and hearing... especially to those who live in London, afetr a while the protesters, the homeless and others inneed (*rant* Especially fundraisers especially - speak from experience on this one - it is HELL raising money for charity anyhow, worse when volunteering and getting up at 6am and even hearder when the charity is something 'non-grabbing' such as 'Help the aged' *finishes rant*)

Sorry, yes, erm, door... exactly. Well said Maure.

I think that Richard- being the warrior he turns out to be- is actually a descendent of someone from London Below. Those down there have special abilities and Richard does too... it only makes sense.

Or maybe it's just nice to think that you can make something of yourself no matter who you are - even if you are from London Above...Smile

Or perhaps Neil Gaiman just needed a way to get Richard involved in the whole story in the first place, and therefore can justify it any way he wants.

Just kidding, don't kill me!!! Smile
