I agree, the city would have to mix modern with history and myths, so I think Montreal or Quebec City would be pretty interesting...Most European Cities would be good too....But I think Toronto would be nice too, since it is fairly historical, but the underground isn't very nice...Only a U shape... And the sewers aren't nice either...

LA wouldn't work becuase it has no soul. haha. and the few subways we have are named after streets and arent all that interesting.

There's a book called War for the Oaks that involves a faerie battle in Minneapolis. The book predates Neverwhere (I think it was written in the mid-80s). I read it after Neverwhere, and although I like Gaiman's work better, I'm convinced it was an inspiration for him.
