Does anyone who has seen the televised series actually like it?
I couldn't pick it up at any video stores in my town so I went the evil way and downloaded it. After watching the first episode I new I ddin't like it. I continued watching the rest simply because Neverwhere is my favorite novel and not just my favorite Gaiman novel.

What do you people think?

whilst i'm happy you love the neverwhere book and have found your way to this site, i'd like to point out that we cannot in any way condone the illegal downloading of neil's work (even if you do try to mittigate it by saying it's evil).

and why you would come here and say, well i got this illegally and its crap is beyond me.

if you have any queries of how to legally get hold of neil's work, don't hesitate to ask as we have some experts here who would be happy to help you.

if you keep this in mind and read through our FAQ's for other board rules and regulations, i'm sure you'll find us a nice place to hang around.

If you try not to think of the BBC series as an attempt at faithful interpretation of the book, and simply appreciate that it is camp...it's still pretty bad. But amusing none the less. I think it helps to realize that it's camp and not anything great. Then you can just appreciate it for what it is and what it accomplishes rather than for what if fails to be.

I actually saw the series first, many years ago, before reading the Novel and I loved it... Granted it does suffer from many bumps in the road due to the budget and being shot on video but the imagination is there.

That said, the book is WORLDS better and I could see how reading it first would only make glaring the already present weaknesses in the show... He truly did expand on the ideas and create a remarkable novel.

But either way I am very excited to find that a Feature Film is finally getting off the ground, it's the whole reason I came to this board. The simple fact that Gaiman is involved in the script and it draws from the Novel rather then show is enough to have me on the edge of my seat for the next couple years.

Is there a (Region 2) dvd of this? I wouldn't mind watching it. I'm pretty sure I saw a bit of it when it aired, but it was a long time ago. Frown

*edit* Ignore this, there is. £12.99, too. Nice.

I suppose I think of Neverwhere sort of in the way I think about the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Other shows may have higher production values, but none of them will do anything like this.

I saw the tv series when it was first aired, and loved it. I kinda forgot about it until last year when someone mentioned the book, and it sent little sparks of memory flickering. I got the DVD not too long ago, and while I do love the book more these days, I still love the show, too. Door's cute as a button and Croupe and Vandemar are creepy.

I bought it off of Amazon. It was... meh. The story was still there, but I couldn't get past the crap-tastic effects! I mean, ugh. That thing in the beginning of each episode with the wavy yellow map in the b/g when there's a character just standing there saying who they are, just bad. I guess it helped lower confusion, but it was sooo poorly executed. Too bad Britain doesn't have George Lucas. Har. I personally was just pleased it existed, though. Smile
