Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been a long time fan. Can't imagine why it took me so long to look the site up.
I'm getting married soon and need to find readings for the ceremony. Can anybody think of anything from Neil's writing which would be suitable, I'm sure there will be something but haven't got time to read my way through everything. Any suggestions gratefully received. Is it wise to be bleeding in a shark filled sea? - Richard Thompson |

In the introduction tgo "Smoke and Mirrors" there is a short story called "The Wedding Present" it might be what you're looking for.

*spit take* nonononono.... I can't imagine reading that at a wedding. It's filled with the most awful stuff that could happen to a couple! (Mind you, I haven't come up with a good suggestion yet)

what about Chivalry? from Smoke and Mirrors, it was cute, maybe not wedding-like though.

You know, I've been toying with the idea of making a book-like favor that includes The Wedding Present. I guess it really all depends on you, and how you feel about it. Granted the story is very dark, but it's about what could happen to a couple while they go on to lead very happy lives. I still haven't decided yet.

OK! I put my mind to it and dug through the stacks, and I'm happy with what I found, dammit! I think Neil's piece 'A Personal Thing' would be an appropriate thing to read. It's been posted (with permission) here:

I kinda like the Tuesday 5th entry from the Scarlet's Walk tour book, up to the bit about the homeless guy.

Thanks for the input. I thought about The Wedding Present but rejected it for the reasons mentioned. I was hoping there was something from Sandman or American Gods which would spring to mind but can't think of anything offhand.
