I guess Ol' Todd Mac is upping the ante. The "Man of Mircales" statue that is a direct ripoff of Miracleman in both name and design is officially in the latest Previews- page 171, to be exact. So what the hell is the deal with this? How is he allowed to get away with this?

In a related question: what the hell is going on with Miracleman? Is Neil going forward with finishing his run on the series? When are the older trades going to be reprinted? And by whom? I keep asking, but nobody answers.

re: Man of Miracles :

(nobody answers because nobody knows).

Seriously -- I haven't seen any official statement or response, just internet rumors. If you're curious enough, ask the source.

I was wondering the same thing now that he's also got a Man of Miracles action figure on the way. I keep hearing that MM is going to be put out by Marvel under the original name of Marvel Man...but I've been hearing that for a long time.

I just did... again. I've petitioned Neil with this question several times already. I asked nicely, politely, but for some reason, even though he's claimed to read every message, this never gets answered. Which I don't get since the whole MM affair seems to be fairly important in his life, and there's been nothing that I can find updating anything at all to do with it other than to occasionally express mild annoyance at Todd Mac. When it was announced that the suit was over in Neil's favor there were rumors about the future of the character and series, but that was a while ago. It would be nice to know what plans Neil has for MM, even if they aren't immediate plans. Anyway, I asked again. Maybe this time he'll grace my question with an answer.

Keep in mind -- he really does read every email. He never promised to answer them all.

Also keep in mind that he's a very very busy guy, and we're all the lucky recipients of his busyness with every new work he puts out. He's got many balls he's juggling, so responses to everything he gets isn't possible.

And, honestly, if he didn't answer you the first time, I'd take that an indication. If he doesn't want to talk about it, it's his right. Asking the same question two or three more times won't change that.

IMO, and this is pure speculation; Tood is exercising the rights he appearntly has to the miracle man logo in order to uphold his trademark. So wha it boils down to is that he is tossing a carrot on a string in front of Neil's face in order to draw out the whole Miracle Man fiasco. If im right about this than that makes Todd the biggest jerk off Ive seen in the comics industry. He seems to have some bad karma due to him - perhaps readers should boycott all of his products.

(jumping in to remind all of the FAQs and this bit in particular :

quote:
C. General Rules Of Conduct
*Cussing is allowed. It is not allowed if that's all you do.
*Flaming is not allowed. This includes flaming Todd McFarlane and George Lucas. We have a Flame Wars area where that is allowed. Even though it's allowed in Flame Wars, remember that if you misuse that privilege, people will most likely stop listening to you in general.

I'm not saying anything, just taking pre-emptive actions.

I always boycott his products, but mainly it's pragmatic: I don't play with toys and his writing sucks. So there's not much reason to give him my patronage even if I didn't think he was a worthless human being.

I must be slow this morning, because I didn't realize it was Todd McFarlane. Doh. But really, he seems like a real prick to me, so him using this as some sort of bait to provoke Neil wouldn't surprise me, but maybe that's just too cynic for my own good.

I've boycotted his stuff ever since I heard about the Miracleman deal as well.

I'd think that since everyone knows what's gone on between Neil and Todd regarding Miracleman, Neil would give us some kind of clue as to what's going on with this figure. I'd say he kind of owes us but then I'm not really sure he does so I can't say that. It would be gracious of him to say something. Is he under some kind of gag order?

I don't think he "owes" us any explanation. Honestly, the lawsuits are his to deal with and his alone and took up quite enough of his time without providing updates to people with no financial stake in the matter.

That said, he could probably say more, but while he's brilliant, his is not a brilliant legal mind, so keeping quiet and being discrete may save time and trouble later on.

I didn't really mean anything by it and I did kind of retract it within the post.
