Anyone else make the pilgrammage to the comic shop yesterday? I have to say, I really liked it. John Romita, Jr.'s art fit so perfect with the story. I don't know the characters at all (except for Sersei...she used to be an Avenger, right? But even so, I don't know much about her) but I'm into it.

Sersei's friend "Todd"...is that a shot at McFarlane? Seems like anytime Neil uses that name, it's gonna have bad connotations (no offense to Todd Klein, of course).

I liked the whole tie in to the superhero registration act, the reality show. Seems like it's off to a good start!

I guess the big mystery is: why can't they remember the last 30-40 years?

Right, I've gone on for long enough. What'd everyone else think?

4 stores in town searched, Amazon, DreamHaven, it's nowhere to be found. I still haven't given up, there used to be a comics store in town I didn't get to check yet (not even sure it's still there but anyway).

I'll find it one way or another.

Oh yeah, it was awesome. I guess it's too little of the story to tell if it will be great, but I loved every bit of it. One issue, a fair few pages, and i'm already entranced and wondering. Although I must admit, the presence of Mr. Fantastic and Tony Stark is a little disconcerting. I mean, I knew it would be in the wide-Marvel universe, but I don't really like it. I guess it works, I just prefer side-storie sort of things.

Chimeer, are you out of the Twin Cities? If you're willing to make a somewhat longer trip, I can pretty much guerantee that Jimmy Jams Comics and Games in Rochester will have it. That's where I got mine. I was there that evening and yet I was only the second person to buy a copy.

No, I'm not close to the Twin Cities. The closest big town to me is Chicago. But I did a bit of research and it turns out there is one comic book store in town and they had it! So I'm a happy camper.

I already like it much better than 1602. My complaint would be that it's way too short, but I wouldn't have the patience to wait until spring 2007. Anyway, the graphics are kind of warm and I like the style, pretty but not too shiny.

i think i'm gonna wait for the trade.

i've really cut back on my comics too - i may even stop soon, and after 1602 i felt i couldn't really be bothered...but i will check out the trade later.

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

when's spring due?.

I'm kinda wondering what the point is, though... i love Neil, but can this really compete with Kirby? Especially without the Kirby-art?

Its like Grant Morrison's reimigining of Mr. Miracle in 'Seven Soldiers of Victory'. Its cool and all but no Kirby

I'll definatly check it out next time i'm in the comic shop, though it'll probably be sold out by now

No, just a quick spot on tv. He's not really in the action or anything.

Oh ok.
Reed is usually one of the MU's first points of contact with interdimensional beings of a Kirbyriffic nature (like Anihilius and the Negative Zone) so he may show up later!

Er... maybe i should read the comic instead of being a TRUE BELIEVER

There ARE Celestials, Lord.

I enjoyed it. I'm not sure what I think about Neil writing about heroes with feet of clay AGAIN, particularly when it means that he's taken a character with some importance to the Avengers canon, Sersi, and made her an amnesiac for what would appear to be more years than seem plausible, but we shall see.

Yeah, what happened to Sersi and the Avengers anyway? I stopped reading most comics in college, and haven't seen her since then.

And TLON, although Kirby's not present, JRJR's artwork works exceptionally well here, in my opinion.

I enjoyed it, and I don't know who the hell any of the characters were. It's an intriguing idea, whoever those folks are.

I like the idea that something BIG and HUGE and EARTH-SHAKING happened 30 years ago... (and, coincidentally, it's my 30th birthday next month Big Grin)

Where should an Eternals newbie like myself start out for back-story? Can anyone link me to some collections?

I went to the comics store today, and they were sold out!! All that was left was a little book of Eternals sketches

You are an Illuminator. You add color and beauty to anything you can get your hands on: books, tavern signs, clocks, small barnyard animals. While your work goes largely unappreciated, at least it pays the bills. Why, that enormous golden M you painted for the new Scottish restaurant down the street netted you a farthing!

I think Eternals was well written and pretty, which is always a good combination...for some reason it made me want to go back and read some old Sandman which I havent done in a while. Love that stuff.

I know next to nothing about the Eternals myself, Aitapata. There's a new Eternals HC that's out now but it looks...pricey. Too rich for my blood. Smile But maybe you can pull some strings at your library.

I remember is that the celestials showed up in one of the first comics I ever read. I dunno, though. I haven't actually read any of the Kirby stuff and I don't know if I will, until maybe after the mini-series is over.

Well it's about what I expected, not of the characters of course, besides Sersi I have never encounter them before, and her I havent encountered much, but I mean with Neil doing a six comic run the first part is just there to get you dying to see the next part.

I was actually surprised he bothered with as much exposition as he did, but of course he left so much out that the knowledge of the celestials and the deviants gave absolutely nothing away about what he is doing with this part of the Eternals story.

The artwork was as good as i have come to expect of Romita Jr (I always seriously loved his Spiderman work), so yes overall very happy and desperate for this month to pass swiftly.

And, honestly, that no one can do what Kirby did is a GOOD thing for both Marvel and comic books in general. His energy was great, yes, but it was so wild and untamed - yes, he gave us the Eternals and the New Gods, but he also gave us Devil Dinosaur and The Living Eraser. The Kirby giveth . . .

I picked up the Marvel Spotlight, which this month contains a massive interview with Neil that's all about the Eternals. It sounds like his version is VERY well grounded in the Kirby-era Eternals, not the second, later, much inferior series.

Just so I don't miss it, what day is issue #2 scheduled to come out. I had no problem getting #1 'cause I was there on the first day, but they did sell out pretty quick and I want to make sure I don't miss an issue.
