This sounds like you expected not to like it more. I'm not familiar with the original so I can't make comparisons of the characters with what they were supposed to be, and I can't tell if Neil hit the spot with the relation between deviants and celestials or not. As something that stands alone by itself, the ending left me a bit non-plused for some reason. I guess I find it a bit annoying that in these superheroes comics nothing really has a clear definite ending, you always have to leave a door opened for continuing the series. I'll have to read all 7 issues again in one run to have a more clear opinion. |

I didn't want to start a new thread on the same topic, but I also don't want to read any spoilers, so I haven't actually read the thread (if I should just start a new thread, mods, let me know and I'll go and delete this)
but... should I read this? I'm girly when it comes to comics and I like pretty ones without the super superheroes. So I'm not sure this is something I'd want to read. just wondering if anyone has advice for me...I know nothing about the Eternals, and somehow it hasn't really made me think I'd like it. (However, I'm a completist and I like to have anything with "Neil Gaiman" on it.) -Captain Silky, Queen of the Heartless Bitches YAHR! (by popular demand) |

Hard to say, Silky. With the exception of 1602, this is probably the most superhero comic/story of Gaiman's that I've read. But it still is a Gaiman comic. My best advice would be to thumb through the HC at the bookstore when it comes out and see if you like what you're reading.

wait hold on, so you're saying 1602 is more superhero-y? cause I liked that enough.

I always liked the Eternals and as you might guess by my avatar I was a big fan Thor in the late 70s right up to issue 300 with the showdown with the Celestials.
I just finished the series. I somewhat agree with Firelizard on the point of the Celestials eating the Deviants. That just seemed a bit out of place and strange to me. Overall I liked this mini series. It sets up a good foundation if Marvel wants to start a new series.(If they haven't already, I am not up on the latest in the Marvel universe) I don't have much faith in the success of a new Eternal series but hope springs...... you know I am pretty familiar with the Eternals and their history. I can't say if the series worked at all for the uninitiated. I was a bit shocked when Zuras killed Sprite. Unlike Firelizard I always saw him as a Loki type trouble maker but I was still a bit surprised with the death. I was hoping for an appearance or reference to Reject and Karkas but if there was, I missed it. Overall I liked the mini series but felt a little underwhelmed. ------------------------------ my cup runs over but I am so blind I just complain as it spills around me |

On re-reading the series, I like it quite a bit more, but it's still missing something. I know Neil rarely has big, superheroic fisticuffs as a main element of his books, but this is from the Kirbyverse. The flashbacks were more exciting than the main event, which basically consisted of a bunch of immortals maundering about the place.
