punkyfins thankyou for an anwser or rather comment on the question and comment i posted in all the beginning .where have you been , smaug this is the direction i thought the disscusion was going to head in in that peoples opinion of batman the title and the character and what it all means to them . I believe you stated something along the lines of deadman being of intrest to you , okay that falls in the small cog of things as a small character in batman the title. but what have you come to expect in your batman stories..what makes you come back .
and i did not mean to exclude anyone from commenting but if you have nothing to comment on the topic at hand which i believe is batman and look who is writing for batman please spare us any other topic or just start a new topic in general topics, because this one i believe is dedicated to the batman/gaiman i come in peace take me to your leader. |

and that was the discussion you would have got, if you had come into it with a query rather than a "THIS IS SO WRONG" attitude. when you amended your post to explain your point, you got the discussion you were after. you have to remember, this is a message board, we can't see your body language or notice your tone of voice UNLESS YOU SHOUT, which just annoys people, you have to think about what you are posting.
which is what you got in the new thread i started. did you manage to follow my link to get to the thread?
this thread is for discussions on the batman/gaiman story, that is the topic at hand. why you love batman in general is another topic, which you can find threads on in the other writers forum and now in the worlds end forum.
i have no leader but me ~ I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not. when's spring due?. |

You're uite welcoe Do join in. The thread is in the WE.
again do join us in the WE! Very interestng topic.
Okay! But still, it *would* be interestinng to see Neil's take... ~You are a *Taverner*. Sometimes patrons want to go where everybody knows their names, though it helps when half of them are named John. When people want to celebrate, or commiserate, they gather to your establishment. You provide the atmosphere, the warmth, rum, and even an ear to bend. Did I mention the rum? Years before the language will be mangled with terms like facilitator and networking and interpersonal communication, you've overseen it all, and broken up a few bar fights, to boot.~ -Royko |

It is always interesting to see another take on a almost mythological figure. I think that Neil could do some tremendously interesting things with Batman.
He could certainly delve into the philosophy behind a lot of the disciplines that Batman has learned in his time. And while I don't think there would be blatant magic or supernatural elements in the story, I almost think he would definitely work with mythological and even legendary elements or anecdotes to bolster the points that he makes and the thoughts that the character(s) has. But also, if you have seen Neil's other works like Signal to Noise, and Mr. Punch you can also see that Neil can and will definitely play with psychology and the psychological reality and perception around the character -- around Batman. At least, to some extent. And some of his one-liners and meditative lines can hit you hard. Where it counts. Other these thoughts, I really don't have any concrete expectations. I just think that when his efforts come into trade paperback, I want to see what happens. But Neil definitely is as qualified to write Batman as Alan Moore, and Frank Miller (at least in Year One and The Dark Knight Returns) have. That is just my opinion on the matter. And it is always interesting to see what Neil is making next. ______________________________ Do not leave me with a bowl of anything for an extended period of time. |

the fact that we use the word "mythology" when we talk about Batman and other superheroes would suggest that Gaiman's strengths in working with mythology would be an asset in writing a two-parter for Batman without ever stepping outside the established narrative.
