I've only just got around to reading the novel, and I had a nice surprise this morning on the train.

When Richard first meets de Carabas, he gets off at Tottenham Court Road tube, goes along Oxford Circus, turns down one street (Hanway Street), turns down another small street (Hanway Place), and there is the (fictional) "Orme Passage". Which, it turns out, is RIGHT ON TOP OF MY FREAKING HOUSE.

Apparently I live on a portal to London Below.

...Actually, this explains a lot.

I couldn't resist following in Richard's footsteps during a day trip to London last year- I found and photographed Hanway Street, but no matter where I looked, there was no sign of a Hanway Place, so I assumed that was fictional as well as Orme Passage. Good fun looking, though!
