Well guess what, theres a movie coming out from Marvel comics and guess whos the lead star of this wonderful film?
Low and behold its Reeves of course!!!!
Surely Constantine is a BIG shoe to fill?
the character has featured in numbers of Gaimans own comics, he's best known in the "Books Of Magic"......
CREARlY this is a big step for Marvel letting Reeves play Constatine and im confidant that he's going to do a gooooooooood job for sure!!!
so like me they think too that Reeves has talent has he not?????

okay... first: John Constantine is a DC character, not a Marvel character. If he were a Marvel character, they'd probably have got a good director and a good actor to play him

second, we're discussing this on the World's End and most of us dislike Reeves. you can read the thread there

third: he is not a Marvel character. it really bugs me when people get the two companies confused. here's a quick reference guide for comic book movies, so you don't end up looking stupid(er) among your comic fan friends:

DC Comics: Batman. Superman. all Vertigo characters. Catwoman. Justice League of America.

Marvel Comics: Spider-Man. Daredevil. The Hulk. X-Men. Blade. Fantastic Four.

Other Companies: Hellboy

There. I'm trying to make you a better person.

ooooooooooooooooooooooh, hasn't someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this moring??????
its clearly a case of "Reeves envy" (its ok its common in most people like you)
but thank you for the delicate insight of infomation there on comic companies, its painfully clear that there are people out there with no life what so ever, but it CAN happen in the case of Lord Of Nothing.....

now we've got that clear, back to my point that reeves has talent and theres no stopping him from moving on and playing the role of Dream!!!!

ok my SAD comic friend, thanks again for the info (i will treasure it dearly) i bid you farewell
and again you should really do something about that "Reeves envy thing"? its not healthy....

cheerio

look, i'm a sad comic book geek. i'll freely admit that. i know way too much about comic books... but this is basic info. it isn't even hard to figure out. all the Marvel movies have a huge MARVEL COMICS logo during the opening credits. the DC movies don't.

and i don't have 'Reeves envy'. i have Depp envy and Hugo Weaving envy and, hell, envy of alot of people. and yea, its cool that he is a movie star and all, but i'm not jealous of him

its like dad-- he thought i wanted to be like Reeves. i don't.

i mean, i want a time machine. but thats a different movie

Time machine? hmmmmmm, thats a new one Smile

well i want to turn into a dragon now and then but what can ya dooooooo?

It's not so much that Reeves is a bad actor, but he's definately wrong for the part. Constantine is A:Brittish, B:Outspoken C:Blond. All evidence, including a trailer I have seen, points to the fact that Mr. Reeves will not be playing the role true to the character.

wow
i'm surprised
i mean, Jude Law isn't a bad choice. i can't say i'm a huge fan of his, but he's considered a pretty good actor, and he's British, and women find him sexy/charismatic, and he was great in 'A.I.' you picked an actor who i don't have serious problems with. congratuatlions

he's no Micheal Caine, though

I thougth the same when I saw the Trailor in the movie theatre. Where's the profanity? Where's the asshole-ness? Where are the facial expressions? Did they just make Constantine a Neo portotype of something? Because all I can see in Reeves that resembles Constantine is the suit really.

Most trailers have to be given a pg rating. But we'll see what the movie brings, its out in less than a month here.

I don't know what film you're all talking about, you must all have fallen asleep in the cinema and dreamed a trailer.....

Lady Doom: Is that an act or do you seriously talk like that?

Anyhow, I'm curious to see how the movie plays out, but I will probably not see it anytime soon (cinema tickets are way too expensive to be wasted on crappy or mediocre movies).

Go to World's End. She gets worse.
She seems pretty cool, but Keanu isn't a good actor. Doom, watch 'Devil's Advocate'. Keanu acts with Al Pacino. He is a good actor. Its good comparison.
Heck, watch Neo in The Matrix. Everyone else has charisma. He dosen't.
yea, Constantine is best known from Swamp Thing or Hellblazer. Maybe 'best known among people who only read Neil comics'? Like... "Batman, best known for being mentioned briefly in the first Sandman storyline, is the subject of a new movie that probably won't suck"?

I agree. Reeves is great at "Shyuh, huh, duh" roles, such as Ted and that guy in "Parenthood" with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis and all them. Or, say, the Matrix: He looks good in black, he wore sunglasses which dramatically minimized the need for facial expression, and he had three and a half lines, all of which were directed to be delivered looking confused and incredulous.

(Sorry, Lady Doom. Other than the black bit, I just can't see where you get Dream out of that.)

well... i read an essay on the Matrix site which argued the whole movie was about dreamers realizing they are in a dream (hence 'Morpheus' as the guide/mentor figure) and Neo being the most powerful because he's truly a lucid dreamer. It goes on to talk about how lucid dreamers often get the powers in the Matrix-- flight and all that. 'Course, when i've tried to go lucid i've wanted to do Matrix stuff 'cause i've seen the movie...

anyway, i don't get the whole Keanu/Dream thing AT ALL... i don't see Keanu as right for anything... but discussing Sandman and the Matrix together is always fun

Its not a grudge. the guy's not a very good actor. He was watchable in The Matrix, partly 'cause the rest of the movie rocked. Its generally agreed that he's completly wrong for Constantine. Simple.

If he ends up fucking up one of the cooler comic book characters as bad as everyone thinks he will, THEN i'll have a grudge against him. Like the grudge I have against Joel Schumacher for 'Batman and Robin' (no doubt one of your favorite movies, Lady Doom)
