er... the director meant in tone. that its serious and gritty not, er, Castlevania: The Movie, or whatever Van Helsing is
(wait.. Castlevania would have more gothicness in it. and whips)

yeah, but i think that anyone vaguely familiar with hellblazer would be expecting this as, say, the least of decency in making a film based on it.

*thinks again at who's been casted as constantine*

oh, right. on a second thought, clearing that out was a wise move...

the irony is that Van Helsing stars a guy who was great as another enormously popular comic book character... better then Reeves will be, i think

its worth noting that, like John Constantine, Keanu Reeves was in a band

i heard the band sucked

also, he's still cooler then Sting, the original inspiration for JC, is now (The Matrix > Desert Rose)

look... i hate to say this, but all the ads and promo pictures make Keanu look like a good match for the part. i involuntarily want to see this movie, even though I KNOW, somehow, its wrong. i mean, the organic webshooters didn't ruin Spider-Man, right? everyone said Micheal Keaton was wrong for Batman? in Australia, Eric Bana (later the Hulk) was a lame comedian and Hugh Jackman was a poncy musical star and nobody expected them to be baddass... right?

c'mon... help me out here

as a kid who used to have a major crush on sting, i object.

hey, i loved matrix (first movie). and loved reeves in it. he was all confused and out of place, now THAT he is good in, isn't he?
there's this lame movie called feeling minnesota. there he's confused and trying to be badass. he was good at that as well.

but my head just rejects him as john constantine, what can i do Razz

Sting used to be cool. There's an Onion article about it. Its like how i read about Rod Stewart's first few albums, which were great... stuff like 'Stay With Me' and 'Maggie May'.
That was a long time ago. Same with Sting.

Bowie? Dylan? The Who? Still cool. The guy who did Desert Rose? not so much... IMHO, of course

but he was one of the fun in Dune. like, he kept wearing that silly mad expression that amused me a lot.
and the movie being not that good in the end, well, being amused at something in it was positive.

yea... i'm agreeing with you. He used to be awesome. His acting was awesome. The Police were awesome. Its like how Paul McCartney was great in the Beatles

but now, i don't think Sting's recent stuff is as cool as starring in The Matrix

but starring in the matrix (well just the first one according to my taste) still doesn't compensate for, well, all the rest.
yeah, my humble opinion too, we're not gonna fight over this one Big Grin

and paul is dead.

good point...
Dune's a good example of what happens when you take a source text too literally
i wonder how David Lynch's Hellblazer would look

You guys know that Hollywood is plundering and raping the comix world for material:

course you know about Mirrormask

Aeon Flux/Charlize Theron (sorry, I don't buy Charlize as an anorectic superspy who looks like a drag queen-she always dies at the end, anyway)

Ghost Rider-Nic Cage/the director who did the Mummy and Van Helsing-it's gonna suck-in production/Australia

Sin City-Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba/the trailers look fantastic (Frank Miller had a helping hand)

Fantastic Four-the bald lead guy from the Shield, Jessica Alba/poor Sue's (Jessica Alba again) powers are completely overwhelmed by all the others cgi powers, tho Doom looks pretty cool

Superman-Kevin Spacey(Lex Luthor)/Kate Bosworth(Lois or Lana Lane-I forget)/Bryan Singer in production in Australia

30 days of Night-in preproduction

The Watchmen-Darren Aronofsky was supposed to direct it (which would have been perfect), but now, no. Now it's the guy who directed the Bourne Supremacy.

V for Vendetta-the Wachowskis are producing

Wolverine-in development (with Hugh, natch)

A lot of Marvel properties are being developed-Namor (Submariner), Iron Fist, Captain America, Werewolf By Night, Hulk 2, XM 3, blah blah blah

I heard they're doing Doom

Hitchhiker's Guide could be interesting (Mos Def as Zaphod? Hmmmm)

Suffice it to say, there is very little originality in Hollywood

personally, aside some "eww"s i've been muttering while reading the list (it does hit hard having them all together...), there are many choices i think can turn out pretty well. for instance, i don't think kevin spacey can HARM the character of lex luthor. and nothing any of you can say will move me from this position before i see the movie, cause i adore kevin spacey's acting. Big Grin

can you imagine keanu speaking in a witty con-man-style self-depreciating (while simultaneously) narcissitic manner?

in a witty way at all?

-GROAN-

pkitty is right, this is rape and plunder.

*remember The Usual Suspects* mmmm... yea, that movie might have lots of bad things, but Spacey isn't one of them

and everything i've read, seen, and guessed indicates that Batman Begins will whoop as much ass as a pissed off Christian Bale (ever see Equlibrium?) can whoop. Bale's a badass. Chris Nolan is awesome. Ra's Al Ghul is a great, mostly unknown villian

i've had an idea for a while... why not mix up the directors of the Marvel movies? shake things up a bit? Ang Lee's Spider-Man. Sam Raimi's X-Men. Brayn Singer's Daredevil (Daredevil vs a guy alot like Kayser Soze?)

and Sam Raimi's Ghost Rider. 'cause hot damn that't rock

or Ang Lee's Iron Fist, drawing upon Lee's experiances as an Asian immigrant in Hollywood and starring his old pal Jet Li!

or David Lynch's Dr Strange... mmmmmm....

Disappointments:
1)Lucifer wasn't beautiful
2)Gabriel was practically the villain
3)John wasn't a Brit, no trenchcoat and blonde
hair.
4)No other divine characters
5)Only showed a fraction of the Silver City

Eh, theres other minor ones, but thats all I could cook up. I got so annoyed that people thougth Gabriel was a girl and didn't get the concept that angels, especially an archangel, are beautiful. I wasn't particularly disappointed that The Creator wasn't shown in any way. I realize his usual absence in the comics.

Seriouisly, i'm liking the ads

as a fan of David Bowie, anime and Japanese videogames, i am used to the idea of long haireed, androgynously beautiful guys

dreams can be really wild Big Grin
but i don't trust the hollywood people to do such a thing as dare making a successful combination of collaborations and stuff...
