eh... i think it'd work 'cause all the directors are great directors on their own. The Evil Dead movies are cult classics; The Usual Suspects is a classic; Crouching Tiger is a classic. Having them shuffle around Marvel characters might be fun
you could argue they it would remove the unique traits each one brings-- Raimi's love of Spidey, Singer's gayness.... but i think it'd be neat

and i want my Sam Raimi Ghost Rider, dmmit

its less than a week until a certain movie comes out, I won't mention it 'cause Smaug might deny its existence.

i think i'll bring this up at tonight's Mage game... my RPG club sometimes meets to see movies. it might be good for the group to see it

mostly 'cause our party in Mage is very stupid, and i wonder if anything in Constantine is as crazy as the stuff we've been doing (using Hell as a place to dispose of corpses)

i took it as meaning 'man, Paul McCartney sucks now, so he might as well be dead... the real Paul probably already died or had his soul taken to Hell... this Constantine movie likewise shouldn't exist'
(the soul taken to Hell thing is my twist from an epic poem i wwrote)

never heard the "paul is dead" theory? it's a famous urban legend revolving around the beatles, about paul mccartney being dead for years. that listening to some beatles songs backwards, or some inaudible sounds that apparently could be heard between one track and the other, you could hear stuff like "paul is dead" or "he is a dead man".

but yeah, i wasn't serious about it.

have you heard 'Freedom'? the man is dead inside, at least
Constantine is British. he should investigate. like i said, i wrote his soul into Hell (according to Dante, people's souls can be taken when they're still alive)

should i tear down the Constantine posters around here? i was walking home at 2 and realized i could do it without getting caught

that article has the best casting suggestion-- Dennis Leary! I can't believe i didn't think of it before! Remember Action and The Job? The guy plays a grade A asshole... and he'd NEVER quit smoking.
Man... that'd be funny
(yea, it'd probably be as wrong as Constantine. but funny)

If Constantine is pg 13, it's going to suck and blow at the same time.

I remembered hearing that Brian Singer is going to develop, "Lone Wolf and Cub". It's funny how he took XM, professed not to even like comics, and now is fulling embracing the cashflow into his greedy little paws (tho I must confess, I did like XM & XM2).

I see a younger Julian Sands as Constantine (why was he never casted in LOTR? He's much prettier than Hugo Weaving)

Brian Singer "fully embracing the cashflow into his own greedy paws?"
how about 'using his identity as a homosexual to gain a handle on the material, then bringing in great actors to make good movies?'
Lone Wolf and Cub sounds great, but he needs to make X3. You don't promise the Dark Phoniex Saga and then not make it

Do you really think Bryan ever felt like an outcast in Hollywood? This town is dominated by gays (above the line)-they really have an "old boy" system and are quite protective of it.
I don't know if the gayness helps-look at Sam Raimi-I think Spiderman is terrific (and I don't even like the comics)-he really stresses the relationship in his film, and I find Bryan's relationships really confrontational. At least Sam attempts to do other things than comics. Brian is a multi millionaire from the XM franchise, and I think he's just on automatic right now (although the phoenix foreshadowing was cool). As much as I like the XMs, I still prefer the Usual Suspects.
I just remember seeing interviews of him not being enthusiastic about the first XM, and it kind of put me off.
Have I pissed off everybody now? Sorry....

huh? how about feeling like an outcast when he was a kid? Bobby's mom saying "have you ever tried not being a mutant?" wrang true from what my friends experianced, i think
i loved Spider-Man, too. you think Raimi dosen't have a ton of money? you could call him a sell-out for not making Evil Dead 4
and yea, i prefer Usual Suspects to X-Men and X2, but Usual Suspects was an almost perfect movie. i prefer it to most films. X2 was great... and what do you mean 'confrontational'? its about a group of mutants who are hated by the world fighting against their own kind for that world... the comics have always been a crazy soap opera. the first time Rogue appeared to join (in the comics), she was beaten up (i think)

anyway, i don't care how enthusiastic he is... he made good movies that felt like the comis. i wouldn't trade Ian McKellan as Magenteo for anything... and Patrick Stewart IS Professor X. and Nightcrawler? c'mon

Don't get me wrong, all of my gay friends would rather not be gay, if they could make the choice (just too traumatic/stressful/alienated, etc.), but don't you think that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or ethnic background has felt like a complete outsider at one time in their lives? And that a really talented director can utilize that? I'm reiterating that I do think the XM franchise is great, but I'd rather see Bryan go back to more of the US type of stuff. OK- they sly winks he gave to LOTR was great (but I don't know if that was Bryan or the screenwriter).

Maybe I'm having a crappy comic book movie overload (Electra-ARRRrrrggghhhh).

And yes, Sam has sold out, but after how many years & movies?

You can put Ian & Patrick on an empty stage, wearing a paper bag and they'd mesmerize you. Alan is...Alan-I dearly love him (especially in the stage version of Chicago). I wish he didn't take the Son of the Mask gig.

What are your specific problems with the X-Men movies? i thought there was a bit of trouble with the pacing, but everything else was good. the stuff that didn't make sense to non-fans works if you know about the Phoniex

for what its worth, the Hellblazer videogame got a medicore review. decent supernatural action title, nothing more
ah well... *goes back to playing 5 Castlevania games at once, each featuring supernatural fighters with more style then this version of constantine*

er, as much as i like neil gaiman i still prefer eating chocolate.
i mean, the two things are totally unrelated, two completely different genres.
if your issues are that he has done practically nothing aside a noir story and two superheroes movies, oki, the guy should be working his ass off a bit more, but on the other hand he's been earning his living pretty well as it is so i think he might be reasonably lazy.

but if you're criticizing the XM movies per se instead, er, my only doubt is that i don't get what exactly you're criticizing...

yah... you can't really make X-Men into the Usual Suspects.
well... with shapeshifters and all that, you could, i guess. but it wouldn't work as well as, say, Daredevil vs Kayser Soze, which would be perfect (since DD is concerned with local crime and is a lawyer)
he made an awesome crime/puzzle movie, and he made two great superhero movies. I don't see the problem. Its like complaining that there weren't enough chainsaws and zombies in the Spider-Man films (though i do wish there were more classic Raimi quips)

oh, and if they really intend to desecrate Constantine they should change the name of his old band from Mucus Membrane to the Wyld Stalliions

'cause i liked Keanu in those movies
