Anybody else picked up a copy of 1602 yet? I haven't read it, but I flipped through and the coloring is amazing.
I went to two different comic shops because one didn't have any copies of HERO left, but both had HUGE stacks of 1602. It was nice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Never doubt a small group of dedicated people can change the world - indeed, it is the only thing that ever has" Margaret Mead |

I read 1602 - and I mean, I'm not a huge comics person (At least super hero wise) and I know I'm missing LOADS of stuff because all the characters are comic book characters... *sigh* only reason I know even that much is because of the red eyes and peter w/ the spider (thanks to the magic of movies...)

I felt that way when first reading Neils books of Magic - but as reading more comics the book became better and better - you'll just have to read more superhero comics

quote: I know I got a bunch of them, but I'm sure I'm missing others. Here's what I got so far, can anyone fill in the blanks? (But no spoilers, please - if the answer isn't obvious, I don't want to know until it's revealed in the story) In order of appearance or mention (1602 name first): Nicholas Fury - Nick Fury aka The Punisher? Doctor Stephen Strange - Doc Strange The Old Man - ?? The Winged Man - ?? (an X-men character, though, right?) Ballad of the Fantastick -- a Fantastic Four reference? Matthew Murdoch -- Matt Murdock aka Daredevil Peter Parquagh-- Peter Parker aka Spider-man Count Otto Von Doom -- Dr. Doom Clea (woman with Doctor Strange) --?? Grand Inquisitor -- ?? Sister Wanda -- ?? Petros (Inquisitor's scribe) -- ?? Javier -- Prof. Xavier, X-men Virginia -- ?? Rojhaz -- ?? Man in green who attacks Fury --?? Scotius Summerisle -- Scott aka Cyclops, X-men Robert Trefusis -- Bobby aka Iceman, X-men John Grey -- Doctor Jean Grey, X-men |

quote: Oops. Must have been the "FR" sound that stuck in my head, I don't think I've actually read anything comics with either character yet. I spotted one more - Fury tells Peter he wishes Oliver Reed was still around, and Reed is Green Arrow, right? Name-games aside, I enjoyed the comic, and am looking forward to seeing where it goes (and finding out what the Old Man is bringing to England). Strangely, I didn't like the artwork as much on the page as I did when I saw previews of it on-line. It didn't look as crisp to me, if that makes sense. Mara |

*Clea (woman with Doctor Strange) -- That's his wife, she's a regular Marvel character, too.
* Virginia -- I have no idea. * Rojhaz -- Captain America (Steve Rogers was his real name) * Man in green who attacks Fury -- The Vulture, a Spider-Man villain. Patrick "We've got a blind date with Destiny, and it looks like she's ordered the lobster." - MYSTERY MEN, 1998. |

The nun in red is The Scarlet Witch. I suspect that the old man Javier is Charles Xavier of the X-Men, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
I love Daredevil as the bard superspy, by the way. And the art is amazing. I'm really looking forward to issue #2! "If this ain't by the book, then the book must be wrong." --Michael Penn |

Virginia - Hmm just a guess here but perhaps Storm (if captain america is a red indian I'm sure she can be white!),
just due to the white hair, and the whole weather thing (Strange gets taken to her when he asks about the weather), and the "change" thing maybe she can't control herself yet |

Damn, i wish i was near a comic shop... i need to take a look at this. I'm not sure how i feel about a ton of Neil fans (who may have a hostile/ambivilant attitude toward superhero comics)reading something that seems pretty tied to the history of my fave comic universe... and i'm also not sure how happy i am about yet another "Earth X" style alternate history. I guess i'll see when i read it...
