Has this case concerning ownership of Miracleman finally been settled? I assume it has been, and favorably to Neil. If so, wasn't there some sort of plan to reprint the previous trades and finish off Neil's current run on MM?

This thread has the latest info I have about it. It seems to clearly state that the rights are out of McFarlane's hands and that there are plans to reprint, but it's also been nearly a year now since Neil said what's in that link

Well, i really hope McFarlane's big ego (how the heck did that goof end up with the copyrights anyway!?!) will sort through this soon and reprint the complete series..

It's one of those things you feel a little incomplete not having read this series, ya know?

Because in the early to mid 1990s, McFarlane was not only a hot artist and respected but had the cash when Eclipse folded to buy up their old rights

I asked Neil about future plans for reprinting and/or completing Miracleman when I was at the Temple reading/signing and he replied in the affirmative, but that there was no exact timetable as there were still details regarding the bankruptcy to iron out. He didn't elaborate and as there were many folks waiting behind me patiently in line I didn't follow up.

(I was reminded to ask about MM as Samuel Delany had mentioned it in his introduction of Neil).

Well, we live in hope if not exactly in days of miracles and wonders...

I'm a little curious about this new action figure that McFarlane is making. It's on his site and it's called Man of Miracles. He's dressed differently than Miracleman but the double M on his chest is basically the same. Is this stealing or does McFarlane still have some holding on the character?

Yeah, i remember he bought that steroid cases super homerun baseball for like a million dollars or something...What an artistic tool he is.... Mad

Just kidding, he's a great talent. But i don't see why he's being so stingy with the MiracleMan series... Holding out for more cash, or it just isn't the right time...?

The costume underneath the jacket, with the double M and the red neck piece with the yellow circles is a complete and unforgiveable ripoff of Miracleman's costume. MacFarlane doesn't own a shred of MM and should lose his friggin' shirt for this crap.

Before anything happens, I'll remind people of the rules posted in our FAQ:
quote:
C. General Rules Of Conduct
*Flaming is not allowed. This includes flaming Todd McFarlane and George Lucas. We have a Flame Wars area where that is allowed. Even though it's allowed in Flame Wars, remember that if you misuse that privilege, people will most likely stop listening to you in general.

As for the rights and such, that's for the lawyers to decide. I seem to recall Todd possibly having an (expired) trademark notice for the logo, so that may be the grounds he's using to go forward with this. I sent the action figure link from above to Neil, hopefully he'll see it and take appropriate action. Whether he does or not may not be brought up in the blog. I don't recall any publicly discussed legal action taken in regards to the Miracleman statue Todd produced, nor the subsequent one Neil produced, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if lawyers were talking back and forth behind the scenes

Well, you know, it would be nice if they could come up with some kind of equal 3 way ownership between Alan, Neil and Todd, and that they would not only reprint the whole series, but maybe even do a complete new series, with Todd handling many of the artistic duties and Neil and Alan writing together... Smile

Now that would shake the comic's world to the very core.. But, even just a couple reprint editions would do that.. I hope this gets worked out in the best interest of all involved parties, and in the best interest of the fans who have been waiting for this for a pretty long time now... Good luck to Neil! I'm sure it will be great once it (hopefully) happens..

Moore has no interest in touching the property again. And the only interest Todd has in MM is screwing Neil over and making himself look good, which, of course, never happens. The property's future appears to be in Neil's hands.

I also would like to know if there are any updates. Especially with the toy that Todd is putting out (Man of Miracles). I've been trying to look things up and it seems that the rights are 60% to Gary Leech, 30% to Neil and 10% to Dez Skinn (according to Rich Johnston; see this article: http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?article=2325). Does this mean anything to the reprinting/completion of the series? Or is this even accurate?

I've tried to do what the moderator advised- namely ask Neil himself. But alas, though I've put the question to him several times, I have yet to see a single, solitary, even cursory reply. If Neil won't answer, I have a hard time believing anything is going to happen on this issue any time soon, which is a pity, seeing as how there's a surge of new interest in Alan Moor properties due to the V film, presumably including his first 16 issues of MM. A new set of trades would be a welcome sight, as would Neil's finishing off of the storyline he had to abandon about a decade ago due to the legal troubles.

*shrug*

I have no answers. If he's not talking about it, there could be a purposeful reason. Could not be.
