Neil mentioned this site in his blog where a couple of his poems are posted.

The first one The Day the Saucers Came is really sweet and I can relate to the feeling. We all can I guess. The second one, no comment.

I really like the second one. I think it explains some of what I see in Neil Gaiman's work -- a longing for what can't be, plus a wild, shining imagination. Speaking as a woman though, I find it also a little sad and unsettling: I once upon a time thought my naked body was something special and that whatever guy was getting to see it was a lucky lucky man. Now, I'm not quite so sure anymore. (Speaking generally, of course, and not specifically to Mr. Gaiman -- please God, you all understood that!!

I liked the ambiguity of the first one; it seemed like its speaker could be reproving the addressee while also a little proud of his/her own ability to hold them in thrall that way.
I liked the second one too. The mysticism that surrounds the normal, human body seems annoying and ridiculous to me sometimes. So, the fact that someone might enjoy the idea of nakedness just as much as the reality, seems kind of neat.
And here I imagined that you must be having a torrid affair. Spoilsport. |

I really think the second poem is a wonderful key to reading all of Mr. Gaiman's works. To me, it explains so much. (And that poor man -- to have such half-witted fans like me, stumbling all over their words all the time!

I think you're doing just fine with words and that was well said.
I do sometimes feel like him, that a guy seems more mysterious or even more attractive with clothes on than without. Not that I have as good an imagination as his about what's under the clothes. |

I felt that way about guy's-bits.
When I was younger, around 13ish-14ish, I so incencely wanted to know what a real penis looked like-- I had only seen drawings from health class on what the INSIDE of a penis looked like, and how it worked, but it still was a mystery on what it looked like- naked and hanging there. And then when I saw it, for real, the mystery was gone, and it wasn't nearly as magical as I thought. Even if it was fun. ------------------------------ (Grrr.... YAHR!)
