Okay, so is Interworld supposed to be aimed just at actual kids or is it adult-friendly? joe

Lucky you! You work in the industry or got it on eBay? When Nature calls, we answer. Or else. ~ Me

I pre-ordered it on Amazon back in April. I'm about 30 pages in and so far its another gem. I would say all ages can enjoy it because the story is just so excellent.

Yes, it was just released. I got an email from Harper Collins' authortracker that told me that.

I was clueless about this one. Haven't followed the blog as I should have... I couldn't get very itnerested, though. I think it put me off the fact that it's yet another "normal person falls into parallel world and has to Deal With Stuff" book. Don't get me wrong, I think Gaiman is brilliant in this type of stories, it's just that after Satrdust, Neverwhere, Books of Magic, Coraline, Mirrormask, American Gods, a lot of the short stories, and, to an extent, Anansi Boys, I'd really like to see something new... So, people who've read/are reading it... Is this something that feels original and brand new or is it something more like another perspective of the same plot? I'll get it eventually anyway, I just want to know whether to get a bit more excited or remain cold and cynical about it

Clover, I am interested in hearing what other folks have to say to your question. Myself, I thinks its a pretty fresh take on the idea of falling into a parallel world. I liked this book alot. To me it reads like a classic like A Wrinkle In Time. I believe that for a young reader this would be a real mind-blower. Very exciting and interesting.

i don't remember if it was in an interview or on the blog, but i remember Neil saying that after neverwhere and stardust he got kind of bored of the interesting things happen to ordinary people thing, and the rest are meant to be a bit more interesting things happen to interesting people. But I suppose its kind of still a similar formula. i listened to the first 2 chapters of the audio book linked off the blog, and can't wait to read the whole thing.

I bought the audiobook at Barnes & Noble today, it was only $2.95 more than the hardback and I love audiobooks, so it was a great find. I haven't listened to it yet, because I'm listeneing to the excellent Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel by Susanna Clarke at the present.

I finished it earlier this week and I can't say I found it very original. The whole thing reminded me of that old TV series "Sliders" (which I loved, so this is not meant as an insult. I just didn't think it was a particularly original take on the whole parallel universes concept). I was a bit disappointed with the book. It's not bad, not at all, but it's by far my least favourite thing Neil has done. As for it being adult-friendly, it's much less so than his other books for younger readers. It's a fun action story that reads a lot like a potential movie, which is what it was to begin with, so it makes sense. But it lacked the depth and ambiguity and introspection I've come to expect from Neil. As for the blog, I thought it was a little surprising how little he mentioned this book.

Nymeth, I see what you mean in a way: its not a new idea. Still, I liked it alot. Could it be because of Hue?

Hue was definitely the best character

Interworld was majorl-y good. It's directed at kids, but I (at 20) enjoyed myself thoroughly reading it. I will likely read it again. Randomly, I also hope it becomes a movie some day. This makes my first Gaiman book ever and I am immediately a fan.

I can't say it reads like a Neil Gaiman book. The wording is not Neil's. A few ideas felt like ideas he would have come up with, but the story was nothing special. Elements reminded me of Luther Arkwright, what with the central world trying to maintain the parallel worlds, and the phrase FrostNight, the painfully obvious opening for a sequel, made me think of Arkwright's Frostfire. I'd rank this equivalent to the Tekno comics stories. OK stories with Neil ideas tossed in, but not feeling like Neil's stuff in the end. Would probably make a decent movie that would do decently in theaters but have no strong following and be forgotten in a few years.

I loved this book, i just finished it last night... has anyone heard if this is planned to be a series? For those who dont know, in the information section at the end of the book, it describes this story as originally being proposed as a tv show, but the tv producers didnt understand it, so Gaiman turned it into a book, and the producers still didn't read it. So this story definitely sets itself up to be a great movie or book series. I just hope Gaiman continues with it.
