I just remembered something said by one of my biology profs near the beginning of a field bio class up in the boundary waters:

"The stories people tell about crows tell us more about people than they do about crows."

He went on to say that anthropology was a perfectly valid field of study, but this was an ornithology class, so we'd be focusing more on the birds. I've always liked the turn of phrase, though, & thought it should be more widespread... also it kind of reminded me of the story in American Gods about the people who wanted to hang crows outside the town to warn the others away.

Does anyone else know of a saying that deserves wider circulation? Reasons may but need not include being particularly wise, useful, pretty, and/or true; also, sufficient awesomeness may excuse the absence of any of the above.

I'm hesitating to write this, but my mother always said:

"There's nothing so overrated as a bad fuck, and nothing so underrated as a good shit."

...which says a very great deal about her marriage, I think.

Hive, that reminds me of one my friend Claire used to use: "For every pig, there's a pig fucker."

She swore it made more sense in Spanish, but I have my doubts.
