What are your favourite lullabies? Either to sing or to be sung?

"Blue Moon" has been one of my son's favorites for me to sing, however, "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd is his fav at the moment. Mine too.

"Hallelujah," so long is it's not the Leonard Cohen version. It's a great version, but not lullaby material.

"What Sarah Said."

For the boys, it's usually a hymn as the songs need to be longish and I need to know all the words.

I've always been a fan of the classics:

Mockingbird (Hush Little Baby)
Rock-a-bye Baby

I have a book of them, somewhere.

There was a single blue line of crayon drawn across every wall in the house.
"What does it mean?" I asked.
"A pirate needs the site of the sea," he said, and then he pulled his eye patch down and turned and sailed away.

"The ants go marching"

My mom sang it to me. And when someone is upset I sometimes will curl up with them and pat their back to the rhythm of the song. It really does work. Plus it has counting and rhyming for the kidlets.

I... can't sing. Thankfully Devlin goes to sleep quite easily, he always has.

For my son, it was Bye'lo Baby Bunting. Over and over.

For my daughter, it was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - all 5 verses or so.

my sister and I had a tape for going to sleep with lots of different songs on it. I remember being read to before bed, but not being sung to.

but my mother woke us up (or at least she woke me up) by singing a garbled version of some little song from Alice in Wonderland.
