Don LaFontaine

You may not have every known his name, but I guarantee you'd recognize his voice.

"Are you a princess? I said & she said I'm much more than a princess, but you don't have a name for it yet here on earth."

-Brian Andreas

Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

IN A WORLD WITHOUT DON LAFONTAINE... STUDIOS WILL FALL. AUDIENCES WILL TREMBLE. AND A NEW VOICE-OVER ARTIST WILL RISE.

Jerry Reed...He was quite a character.
I was very sad to hear of his death. I knew he was having health issues but I hadn't heard anything for awhile. Back around 1970 I was fortunate enough to meet Jerry (Hubbard was his real last name). My uncle worked in the RCA offices and invited me to his house one evening. Jerry had stopped by for a visit as he and my uncle had become aquainted a few weeks prior. I hadn't heard of him before this. My uncle asked him if he would mind playing something for us on his guitar out in the garage. He played the song Amos Moses which had not been released yet. (Not long after, it went on to be a huge hit). I was blown away. He was kind enough to teach me part of the opening riff. I, of course, could not come close to playing it like he did. This was an unforgetable evening for me. I didn't see Jerry for several years after this. The next time I saw him was at a show down in Nashville. But, I didn't get a chance to meet him face-to-face and talk with him.
He was one hell of a nice man and very down-to-earth. I'm going to miss him.

Michael Turner, age 37, comic book artist.

I used to love his work back when I bought comics. I knew he was sick, but that's way too young to die.

Ugh. Yeah, he struggled hard against it. He had bludgeoned it into remissions for a couple years, but it came back with a vengeance last year.
How in the hell did I miss this?! I just read a piece in my Wizard mag and was stunned. I knew he was sick, I knew he'd been fighting the good fight, I didn't know he lost it Frown Sad, he was too young, and an amazing talent. Can't believe I missed this Frown

“Chives?”
“Yes, m’lud?”
“Is that Ms Ephemera hovering over the croquet lawn?”
“Indeed m’lud. She’s marshalled all the haggle-dans. Missy-twigs and vale-nymphs from Claypole Woods. Apparently she intends to tear this house down and dance on the ruins.”
“Well, Chives, you’d better start the car, what? And pack my tennis things too”

I've always wanted to read Infinite Jest. The whole thing makes me very sad.

Here's the NY Times Book Review version.

Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd.

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

- Sir Alan Lascelles, 19 February 1980

Rachel Kay Poole

My baby I never really knew. I was an awful friend to her mother. I dropped off the radar so much I might as well have not existed in her life. Knowing I suck at communication doesn't change anything. She wasn't even 8 years old and passed on from Sickle Cell. Blood clot in her heart. I am sorry, Rachel baby, I hope I meet you again in the fields. And I hope you are in less pain.
