Well then, now that I'm fully reminded of my own mortality, I think I'm going to go out and LIVE really well today. I only wish my someone special wasn't out of town until Wednesday. *sigh*

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, a controversial member of chart-topping American R&B trio TLC, has been killed in a car crash in Honduras, according to a spokeswoman for her record label. No other details of Lopes' death, which happened on Thursday, were supplied by Laura Swanson, a representative of Arista Records in New York. The lineup of TLC, whose hit songs included "No Scrubs" and "Waterfalls," was rounded out by Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins. Lopes, who was in her early 30s, made the headlines in 1994 after she was arrested for burning down the house of then-boyfriend, former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Andre Rison. TLC's most recent album, 1999's "FanMail" topped the U.S. pop album charts for five weeks, and won the Grammy for best R&B album the following year.

Linda Lovelace, said by some to be the world's first true porn star. Appeared in 'Deep Throat' and later went on to speak out against porn. R.I.P. Is this the big year of death, or what? -SLASH-

Dave Berg, the long time cartoonist for Mad Magazine's "The Lighter Side of..." died recently. It could be sappy, but it remained for years as one of the most consistently funny parts of one of the most inconsistently funny magazines of our time.

quote: I'm sorry to hear that. "the lighter side of..." was not one of my favorites when very young (i think because it lacked celebrity charicatures, violence, foul language, and images of vomit/poo/other bodily functions.) i remember that my mom would actually flip to berg's section every month and read it, ignoring the rest. years later when i reviewed my old stack of mad mags i realized just how talented berg was. subtle and old-fashioned, they don't make 'em like that anymore. his talent will be missed.
