He was immortalized in When Harry Met Sally:

quote:
Jess: Emily is terrific.

Harry Burns: Yeah. But of course when I asked where she was when Kennedy was shot she said, "Ted Kennedy was shot?"

Jess: No.

Good riddance. My only hope is that he suffered at least as much as if he had suffocated alone in a sinking car. Bastard.

Wow, CG. I've rarely seen you so...full of bile about someone.

Hopefully now that he's passed he has a better understanding of the wrong turns he took?

*nods* I have heard far to many people call him a "Great Fellow American" and "Hero". I call him a drunk and a murderer, and those are the nicest words I can come up with.

I do hope that his family is given a chance to grieve and mourn. I wouldn't wish the experience they went through during his illness on anyone.

I understand where you're coming from, pupik, but I believe that it's possible for someone who has done a horrible thing to redeem themselves through good work. Ted Kennedy took the remainder of his life after to champion human rights, help minimum wage workers earn more, and ensure that people with mental illness could have their treatment covered by insurance...that has to count for something.

I just found out that Tom Deitz died on the 27th April this year. He wrote a series of children's fantasy books, including Fireshaper's Doom, which is where my name comes from. It's been my alias on the internet ever since I've been connected. If you google "fionchadd" all the first page hits but one relate to me. Finding out that he died, especially so recently, makes me feel strange.

not news but a memorial as it's been two years now, but we didn't seem to pick up on it at the time (although there was closer to home stuff going on for boardsters, so that's fine) and i was surprised to read of it.

mike wieringo the fabulous artist of Tellos and other comics.

i'm sad, i was hoping for more Tellos one day!

I'm also sad that i missed it at the time.

*raises a glass of diet coke to Mike*...well, it is only 10am!

Seems kind of strange to be posting here, but my mother died last Thursday. It was not unexpected, but I still am not sure how to respond to it all. This board has alot of kind and wonderful people, so I thought I would say something.

Oh, library lady, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you have people around you who are looking after you.

(And it's not all that unusual to take a while to have a reaction, and there's no reaction you have that's not 'proper' - people react in all sorts of ways to a loss like this. But I'm sure you know that already.)

*hugs*

Library Lady- Like Hive said, there's no "proper" reaction.

I remember when my mom died, my first reaction was exhaustion and all I could do was sleep. The previous weeks were non-stop time at the hospital.

The feelings just come when they will.

Peace. to you and your loved ones

Library Lady, I'm so sorry to hear that your mom passed away. Like others have said, everyone reacts differently to this - my mom was sick for a long time and her death was very expected, but I was completely shattered by it and shocked by that fact, because I truly thought I was prepared. I wrote a little more about it on Thirith's thread on this topic, if you want to read about other people's experiences.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that even though it hurts, and your hurt is unique to you, you're not alone in going through this experience. It's differently awful for everyone it happens to, so even for people who have been through it, it's hard to know what to say. But we send you love.
