Would that be a Forces + Entropy + Correspondence effect? My first reaction is that it would be coincidental because people are still mystified by technology and would believe something like that could happen. I'd make it pretty difficult if I were the GM, however.

Oh, thats insanely huge, and i doubt it'd work in the game... but it was an actual example from the movie. People were giving Mitnick all sorts of insane power he didn't have... it sucked for him, 'cause he got 8 months in solitary. But in a Mage game, it would work for him, maybe
'Course, it usually helps the Technocracy, 'cause they've got all sorts of funky superscience. But yea, if some guy showed me a portable teleporter with an Apple logo, i'd half-believe it was real (yes, my in my Paradigm Apple has super-science. you explain how the computers get so small)

I'm surprised Matrix hasn't posted this yet. I've only read the first couple, but apparently I should be suing the bard-character for theft of intellectual property.

Mage started tonight. Two Akashics, both a bit psycho, and one hacker. and me, the Dreamspeaker. none of us had played before... i'm still fleshing out my Dreamspeaker. He's got Entropy 2, Life 2, Spirit 2 and Time 1... i'm trying to think of cool things for him to do. The hacker has Spirit 3... grrr.

Nothing really major.. just lots of investigating, and the two ninjas burning down a guy's house after beating him up 'cause they wanted info... he reeally didn't deserve it, though. The magic system is cool, though its weird how the Akashics can just think to do magic while the hacker needs his laptop... but i get how it all works mechanically. My char needs work, but that'll be fixed

The rules lawyer in our game always suggested getting either 3 ranks or 1 rank, not 2 - it was apparently more cost efficient, experience-wise. Just a suggestion.

i'm really bad at creating characters... i suck at math. and making choices. i'd probably do better with a pre-gen... ah well
OTOH, you can do all sorts of combos and stuff once you get the hang of the game, right? so this could end up going good

OK quickie story from DND last night. We ended up fighting ogred, including a 7th level Ogre Barbarian (who cleaned my clock, until I remembered that I had a Dodge bonus, and he missed by one. Neener neener! <Of course, being me, I decided to keep playing dead for a while, but that's another story.>Wink

So the DM is describing what the barbarian looks like, and he turns the Monster Manual around to show us the picture from it. If you open up your Monster Manual to the correct page, students, you'll see that the Ogre picture is opposite the Nymph picture, prompting the following conversation:

"Wow. The ogre's hot."
*Player grabbing the MM* "Yeah, but how many times have you been at a party and left with this *pointing at the Nymph* and woken up with this *pointing at the Ogre*?"

I'm preparing for a probability exam, and I was reminded of an example the prof' gave for a bernouli Experiment.

The thumbtack toss. A coin toss has two possible outcomes, heads or tales, both have the same probability. A thumbtack toss also has two possible outcomes, facing up or leaning on it's side (so to speak) with radically different probabilities, and indeterminate ones at that (depends on the thumbtack).

I was thinking that could be incorporated into a game. Never mind the dice, here, this is your saving throw. Good luck.

hehe
i've got Entropy at two dots... i can manipulate probablity. should be fun... i'll think on that

its kinda weird how powerful paradigm is... hacker dude gets all his magic as coincidental (er, mostly) where someone who chooses to be more mystical dosen't... some people have problems with that. i dunno... we'll see how it goes

I love Mage. Enough to come out of Lurking and actually post something.

Try to keep in mind that even though the hacker and your Dreamspeaker can both use the Spirit sphere it is unlikely that your paradigms overlap enough that you could do the same things or even talk to each other about what you do. The vocabulary you'd use to describe the effects would be completely different.
The more specific you are about defining your Paradigm, the cooler and more satisfying Mage will be as a game. (I had an idea for a Dreamspeaker who was an Inuit who used carved masks to shapeshift. Never played it.)

Entropy at two dots rules.

You can use Entropy to discover weaknesses in other patterns (Life, in your case) and exploit them. In combat situations you could, say, tell that your enemy has a bad knee (from an old skiing injury or something) and exploit that.

And use the Life magicks on yourself. Most of the time that would be coincidental regardless of the paradigm involved.

Neato... i'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

just to stimulate discussion... what game would people use to simulate Sandman-- specifically, playing the parts of the Endless? someone ran a freeform at a con where everybody was a different part of the mind of God (super powerful angels), so it could probably be done
i've heard talk on rpg.net of Nobilis and Amber, neither of which i played but, from what i gather, would actually work for simulating Endless

Random update on my friend's attempt to put together a gaming group in Buffalo:

Local gaming stores don't attract players clever enough to browse at Barnes & Noble then buy on Amazon, and the concept of a gamer "posting board" is foreign to these Neanderthals. Very frustrating.

Totally self-serving question: have we got any former (or even current) users of Iron Crown's MERP modules, either with the various MERP/Rolemaster game systems or just as adventure scenarios?

They are still looking for people. Gary and Mike, former California gamers, have moved back home to Buffalo - Mike so that his kids can grow up around his family, and Gary because he has no "money".

Mike, the finest GM I know, is preparing a campaign based on Eberron (new DND game world). He runs campaigns - my first game with him lasted for 4 years or so, and I joined in the middle of the game.

Yup, we're still looking for players, Hatching Phoenix.

We're using DnD 3.5 with the new Eberron world.
We are shooting for playing every other Saturday.

Depending on what the players are interested in the GM will allow some flexability in character design, up to Gestalt classes from UA.

That's because you're not the one with-

. . . .

Wait, you are the one with boobies.

Why is he emailing the one without boobies?

Does gaming trump boobies?
