New thread for the new season!

Topics for discussion this year:

Will the Patriots dominate again?
Will Eli finally get some respect?
How will a Favre-less Packer team play? (Unless Brett comes back per recent rumors)
Will Adam Jones still get called Pacman?
How many Bengals will get arrested this year?
Who will win the Superbowl?

Fanasty related:
Who will make the playoffs this year?
Will Nyssa repeat?
Who will be picked #1 in the draft? LT or AP?

I'm working on getting the league set up. It'll be another fun year!

Gotta second that. The guy has had a great career and brought respectability back to Lambeau. But this (when added to the will-I wont-I nonsense of the last couple of off-seasons) is really beginning to hurt his reputation. I think if he comes back it will hurt him more. And what will it be for? One, two more years? I just can't see any true upsides on this for him.

So, is there anyone who hasn't played fantasy football (or hasn't played on the WE league) that would like to try their hand at it this year? There's openings in the league, and lots of advice (not all of it good) to be shared, so even if you haven't done this before, but you have a passion for the pigskin, let me or Mattvid know!

I'm actually really looking forward to this season, except for the not being able to watch it or hear results.

But I'm going for the Chargers to take it all this year. They've got everything I look for in a team. Everything, I tell you.

My beloved Bears? just to make a change from the usual issues, just for once the Chicago Quarterback factory appears to have ground to a halt. Oh, how i long for the glory days of Kramer, Stenstrom and Burris.

Burris was the best! He could fling the ball 100 yards, but no one was ever sure exactly which direction it would go in. Including him.

Really? You look for Norv "No-Guts" Turner as head coach?

Heh... true, but last year, would you have been pickin Eli "last and least" Manning coached by Tom "can't win in November let alone January" Couglin?

I'm talking about playing staff... the most talented team bar none. Got weapons in every position with that reciever they added.

And thats a fabulous defence.

I think if Indy gets home field they'll be tough. The Bolts and Colts don't want to play at the Pats in January.

I'm not saying the Bills are better than the Pats, but they're young and hungry. I don't think the Pats will go undefeated again, so the 1 seed is up for grabs.

The ONLY reason the Giants won last year is because God likes to fuck with us.

The San Francisco Giants won last year?

...you'd think I'd have heard about that.

Brett Favre has asked the Green Bay Packers for his release, according to a report on ESPN.com. Favre, who retired in March after 18 seasons in the NFL and nearly all of it with the Packers, had a conference call with team officials on Tuesday in which he expressed a desire to play again in 2008, ESPN reported.

If it's in writing, the Packers now officially need to respond by bringing him back to the team, trading him or releasing him. Green Bay wants option D: none of the above.

What's the latest on Favre? I can't imagine they'll release him outright, not with the Vikes and Bears both needing QBs. I don't see why a trade would be bad. You won't get what he's worth, but then technically isn't he worth "nothing" seeing as he was retired? What do you make of Aaron Rogers saying he'd welcome Brett back with open arms?

The latest I heard was Green Bay calling his bluff. They said, "Fine. You want to come back, you're under contract with Green Bay. You can be Rodgers backup. Welcome back."

They will never allow the Vikes or Bears to get Favre. They probably don't want him at an NFC team they could meet in the first round either (like Carolina or Tampa). I've heard the Ravens are an option since they are a contender without a QB.

Yup. Coach and GM had a press conference and said, "He retired. We moved on."

Where is Shawn Alexander? He was MVP and in the Superbowl 3 years ago. No one wants him now?

Kudos to Green Bay. Seriously. I don't care how Favre's agent wants to spin this as "they pressured him to make a decision early", that press conference was pretty convincing and I think he's just changed his mind. Which is his prerogative, but so is how GB handles this.

Fanball says there's a chance they'd trade him, but no way to an "unconditional release." To Miami for Jason Taylor was mentioned. I don't think Favre would want to play there though. He wants to play on a contender.

The Ravens could be an interesting choice. How's there O-line? Has Odgen retired? The Bucs don't need another QB do they? Smile

As for SA, I have no idea. He was released outright, right? Haven't heard a thing on him.

Ogden retired and Flacco (rookie QB from Del) hasn't been signed yet. Troy Smith appears to be the starter at this point. Didn't Billick get canned last year too? Doesn't sound like the ideal situation to me. McNair did ok, but there was different personel at the time.
