One could argue Billick getting canned is a good thing? No, obviously not an ideal situation there, no doubt.

I'm glad football is nearly here Smile

Favre should stay retired. Just like Jordan at Washington, Gretzky at St. Louis and Montana at Kansas City...the greats don't want to quit. But they should have. It just taints the legacy.

Tampa doesn't need any QBs. They may trade Chris Sims. He's #5 on the depth chart. Doesn't mean they won't make a move for Favre, if he's out there.

Alexander was released. Anyone can pick him up. I haven't seen anything about him. I didn't know if I missed it, if he's considering retirement or if he's waiting for camps to see who might need him. *shrugs*

This made me laugh:

Shirley agrees to four-year deal
The News
The Bengals have agreed to a four-year deal with defensive tackle Jason Shirley, Pro Football Weekly reports. Shirley was a fifth-round pick out of Fresno State.
Our View
Shirley is a good fit for the Bengals, as he carries character baggage. He played only three games as a senior because of three off-field incidents. Nice.

Jason Taylor to leave the Dolphins (no surprise there, then!) to go to the 'Skins for a 2nd round pick in 2009 and a 6th rounder in 2010.

Jeez, what is it with crappy trades... Jason Taylor is, what, usually put up as one of the top pass rush ends in the league. For a 2nd rounder and a 6th? He should be worth more than that.

I like the idea of Drew throwing to Shockey now.

I don't think the Jason Taylor trade is all that bad. If anything, it was speculated quite awhile ago he wasn't going to be in Miami. Parcells has got a system. You either fit into it or you don't and Taylor wasn't fitting into it. This way everyone's happy, prospects for a rebuilding franchise and a new start for Taylor.

Like him or hate him, Parcells played a big part in getting Dallas back in shape, he did the same thing with the Jets, and he should still get some credit in New England. Parcells is one of the few guys who's teams I follow.

Look at me! I'm talking football!

I can't imagine that it would be fun to be in a Parcells' coached team (especially if he doesn't like you), but he has been incredibly effective. And he will surely be recognised as a great coach.

So let me get this straight:
quote:
HC Lewis Wants No Part Of WR Henry
from Footballguys.com News Blogger
Bengals HC Marvin Lewis said he has no interest in reacquiring troubled WR Chris Henry, who expressed a desire to return to Cincinnati last week. "It's not productive for our football team," Lewis said. "You have to be a productive part to be a NFL player. There is a responsibility to be a NFL player. It's a privilege, not a right." Team President Mike Brown echoed Lewis' statement. "We don't want that kind of behavior. We're trying to be more concientous of guys we bring in. "We're trying to go forward with guys who are relaible and guys who are not only good players, but good citizens."

It's a poor substitute for the NFL, but tomorrow's Areans Bowl XXII in New Orleans. San Jose SaberCates -v- Philapelphia Soul. I will get it live on one of my pay-for-view channels and, being desperate for some football, I'll be watching. Anyone else watching?

Now that you mentioned it (and now I remember seeing an ad for it this morning when I was working out) I think I'll try to have it on.

SaberCats lose in a game whose final score flattered them. AreanBowl XXII was not the greatest football game I ever watched, but with 15TDs between two QBs, it was kinda frenetic. Obviously no defence to speak of. But it certainly was very entertaining.

I just don't understand why the Packers management handled things this way, why they wouldn't want Brett back to lead the team again? Don't they want to field the best team they can? Doesn't Brett give them that? For this year? And why worry about one, two or three years from now? They don't know what they have in Rodgers yet, they drafted QBs in the second and .. fourth? sixth? rounds ...

I somehow thought maybe the Vikings and the Jets were trying to figure out a third way to the trade to get Brett to Minnesota, after the Packers had committed the trade to the Jets.

I'm glad the Bears didn't get him. As much as I like him and as much as we need anything at QB, it would have just felt wrong.

As wrong as Jim McMahon and Steve McMichael in Packer jerseys, actually....

apparently according to a NFL website, if the Jets were to trade Favre to the Vikes, they'd have to give 3 first round picks to the Pack. The Herschel Walker era Vikes management would have bit on that quick, I hope this Vikes management doesn't.
