So we can agree that Maeve is crazy, then.

Well I can certainly agree with that.

Is cotton brained better than being goldfish brained? That's usually how I refer to my brain. (after the bit in the Ani DiFranco song, Little Plastic Castles)

Mlb.com is streaming the debates in an attempt to get people to leave their TVs tuned to Fox for the baseball game.

that's not what I meant, but, yes, I believe that people are often racist because they are afraid. my uncle, for instance, developed his prejudice after his best friend was killed in a hotel robbery. the attacker (who stabbed the best friend so many times that they couldn't count all the knife wounds) just happened to be black. is that fair grounds for distrusting an entire ethnic group? of course not, but the prejudice is generated by fear.

what I was trying to say is that most people in our society understand that you can't just come out and say that you're prejudiced against black people. no one wants to "look" like a racist, no matter what their actual beliefs are. so, rather than tell the truth"”that they fear Obama because he is black"”they paint him as a Muslim, which has somehow become an acceptable racial/religious prejudice in this country.

nono, it's true! Obama is a half-breed Muslin.

(also, i'm not convinced the bad guys in Iron Man were coded "Muslim" so much as "Middle Eastern" - which is still problematic, just in a different way. i'm interested in arguments to the contrary.)

"She's too clever by half," said Dr Fruitbowl. "Lets remove half her brain then" replied Igor, feeling rather pleased with himself. "Ah, but what if we take out the wrong half, and she finds out, kicks the schmutz out of us and puts the two halves back together and then REALLY kicks the schmutz out of us?" countered the Dr, "It would be safer to move the whole operation to Costa Rica, get on the net and find a cheap flight"
